Hi folks,

I found this tiny (~2") segment of a plant among some succulents I purchased last month. Does anyone know what this is? I'm impressed with its resiliency -- it doesn't look like it's decaying or drying out even though it's been sitting outside for a while. I'm pretty sure it's not plastic Whistling

Calamari, does it have opposite foliage? I can't decide from the pics.

@sedumzz what do you think about this?

The foliage is so dense that it's honestly hard for me to tell Thinking . I took a few additional photos at a higher magnification under my microscope:

I was thinking a piece of sedum... but seeing the closeup has me thinking maybe piece of mistletoe, dropped from above. Can't match the leaves...

Aha! I think it's this:

Yup, or maybe the species pilea serpyllacea. Note the pohto of that in the database is NOT pure pilea serpyllacea, it is the form 'Globosa'!

It is reportedly very weedy where hardy, but the little hitch hiker I had one time didn't survive being left outside here. If I see another pot with one of those in it, I would buy it even if I don't want the primary plant. I think the minuscule foliage is perfect for a mini garden.

In the north, it is sold as a houseplant outright. Often for terrariums. In the greenhouses up here, one often finds it as a weed volunteer at floor level.

Yes, back in the 1970s. In a terrarium it grows fast and you need to keep trimming it. As a potted plant it can grow quite big, draping around the pot. Nothing unusual - I think just what you might expect.

It grows like a weed here too. I use it as ground cover on my potted plants. Rolling on the floor laughing
