I've had this for a couple of decades, it's by one of my favourite artists, John Singer Sargent. (1856-1925). My icons fit neatly down the sides.

"Carnation, Lily,Lily, Rose."

The painting has its own page on Wiki.

What amuses me is that it took him a long time to paint it, as he only spent on it a few minutes of many evenings, as the light faded.
Actually he'd rather play badminton than paint.

"elf' n' safety" would have played merry hell with the use of lighted tapers, paper lanterns and the girls wearing cotton dresses. If they'd been around at the time.

Sargent could paint anything in more than one style.

But he earned his money painting portraits of the rich and famous.

Some sad stories, behind at least one picture.

This is Beatrice Townsend, the daughter of some friends of his.

Sadly, she died of peritonitis at the age of fourteen.

The rest of the year, it's my latest fav plant pic at the time. Until I take another pic I like better.

nature keeps amazing me
Riley I have Sargents Muddy Alligators. I just fell in love with that painting.. although the subjects are rather hideous, beasts that they are. I should have gotten it ordered as framed but I didn't.so that's on the to do list. It's over the console in the living room sharing wall space with a litho of 2 Scottish terriers and a hand painted people skiing scene. I know-eclectic. My desk top is the drop of water on the top of my page.

Mine is a picture that I took a screenshot of that was on rotation as a screensaver from Windows 10. I think it's located in Laos and is a waterfall in the middle of a forest.

I've seen the alligator painting on this website.

There's 995 of his paintings on it.

This is my wallpaper. It was an image that came with the computer as a screensaver so I saved it for wallpaper.

I use this one as lock screen. I stitched this picture of the 4 seasons around 1968, husband spent 13 months in Korea, and I had plenty time after work.

Wow! The waterfall. The stitching. Rose, you must like your trucks, Jeeps? I hear Jeep owners love their jeeps.
Well, my 2 cats snuggling, for my work personal desk desktop.
Then there are stations I share with others by turns thru the day- for that a rotating something that amuses me- often with a ukulele theme. I like to see amusing things during the day.
When Edge chooses (I know people can't beleive I use Edge, but work uses the whole Microsoft Teams thing...) it is trained to go with landscapes, so many amazing landscapes the world over.
Plant it and they will come.

Sally,

Jeep owners are in a cult. We even have our own special wave. โœŒ๏ธโœŒ๏ธโœŒ๏ธ
I really just bought them because of the colors.

A Jeep owner here for 42 years. Yep, we are Jeep snobs.

My screen savers/wallpapers are not as classy as y'all's.
I use photos from day to day life. Pets, plants, photos of loved ones. They tend to make me smile when I see them at work, at home or on the phone.

"Each to their own."

I'm a Honda CRV snob, as they are "bulletproof."
When I took early retirement, I'd had a Honda Civic LSI for three years and I decided to treat myself to a Honda Prelude.

Thumb of 2022-12-12/DoghouseRiley/dbeea3

So I took my wife to the Honda showroom to look at one.
She looked at it and said "It's a head banger," as she called all low roofed cars as with her MS she found them difficult to enter.
She said, "I'd never be able to get in it, but I could get in that," indicating the CRV behind it. A model I'd not seen before.
We took a test drive, I was impressed, so I ordered one. They had to come from Japan at that time, so delivery took two months.

This was "Brucie" as he was Spruce Green. He was the first, (1998) as on the rare occasion you might see another on the road, "everyone waved." We had him for seven years. When we traded him in, he was on the lot for weeks in front of the Honda showrooms on the main road into Manchester. We used to pass him on our weekly trip in and wave to him. Then suddenly he was gone!
Over the years, I occasionally checked his progress on the MOT site. He passed his MOT every year with "everything right" until 2018, when "everything was wrong." So he must have been scrapped.

Thumb of 2022-12-12/DoghouseRiley/bcca13

He was replaced by "Rhonda the Honda,"

We've had her for seventeen years, I'm now only doing a couple of thousand miles a year, as now my wife doesn't travel well.
Everything works, so there's no point in changing. She's just passed her MOT.
