Happy New Year all! Here's to the biggest potatoes you've ever grown, the reddest radish, and the orangest carrot. Well, in my case, it's the purplest radish, seeing as I am growing some purple (and black) radishes this year. I'll probably grow a couple of red cultivars too, but I have some seeds for 'Purple Plum', 'Black Spanish', and those icicle (Daikon, I think) radishes. Should be fun to try those out.

I'm really looking forward to see what this year will bring in all of our root crop gardens!

Just for information. Daikon and Icicle ate two different types. Each is great in its own niche.

Thanks Johannian
I had planted some late little red radishes and ate a few but the rest got killed by that cold wave. As did some Daikin types I planted way too late. Oh well, onward.
Yay Deeby!
Plant it and they will come.

I see that Seeds 'n' Such carries the Golden Helios radishes -- what an unexpected and beautiful color for a radish!

Dillard, I looked at your entry in the database. What didn't you like about it?

Did not grow well, taste good, or even look good. russet skin akin to a russet potato. lots of misshapes and splits. Hope it does better for me. have not heard from others growing it.

Sighing!
Dillard, that sounds like my experience with a lot of plants that look like they will be awesome...

I'll be very interested to see what anyone else that grows Helios has to say about it!

Deeby, it appears that the "inside" is white. (see the description on the Seeds 'n' Such site)

Baker Creek sells Helios and it has overall positive reviews, if anyone cares to see more comments. But, you never know if the unhapppy growers just didn't comment. Still, the pics there show a tan skin, not that lovely bright yellow.
Plant it and they will come.

Yeah, I'm not sure on the yellow ones. Will look forward to see how they do for those of you growing them, but this year I'm sticking to my purple and black ones.

How strange that the pictures of the radish on Instagram are so bright yellow. Misleading or what?

The French Breakfast radishes aren't up yet. Maybe because it's cold and raining here.
