Here's a plant that I bought a few different times as I have it in a few different places on Upper Daylily Hill. It's a sweet flower, not particularly tall, with a pleasant round face and cheerful coloring. It definitely plays well with others! In 2021 ( first year I kept track) it threw flowers for a month from June 26- July 27. In 2022, it bloomed from July 1 -20. Not as long, but it was a hard summer, hot and dry.

Here's a photo that gives a good sense of its height

Its colors are bright. When I grew it, I had problems with height and low bud count. Korth has used it in his hybridizing. We are in interior of country (more fluctuation in spring than coastal climes) often with little snow cover.

Progeny include Aaron Brown and Painted Demon.

Here's a pic with an old camera. As I recall, its performance could also vary according to particular winters or springs.

I bought this dormant historical daylily [reg 1996] blooming in Michigan last summer, just because I didn't have it Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing , and planted it right away in the ground. Bud count and branching were not registered but was happy to see 20 buds and 3 branches the first year. 5.5" bloom met registration but a bit short at 18" vs 24". A bit short for my current taste but fits and brightens the growing environment perfectly. It is easy to see why MJ is still around after 25+ years.

I'll pop in again to post about this.

I do not have a current picture of Monterrey Jack, but I have had it for a little over a year.

First year bloom had a single strong scape and many buds. Bloomed for about a week and a half.

It has been transplanted and seems to be making some nice increases. It shall be an interesting one to watch for second year bloom.
Does anyone know how to stop spending money on flowers?

2023 update…another good year for MJ, it bloomed from June 30 to July 20, not a bad run. It really is a cheerful ( short) presence.

2023 actual bloom update shows 24" scape height with up to 28 buds on up to 4 branches. A polymerous bloom showed up this year, The bloom opens light and darkens somewhat during the day.
