There aren't many small tets, which makes this shimmering cutie-pie extra special. Pictures can't capture the sheen and rich color. (Burgundy Baroness x Ebony Jewel) x Lil' Red Wagon. Hillbilly's picture shows us some sculpting in the throat and eyezone, but I only see a little here. This one is good towards the front of the border, paired with lavender, pale pink, white, yellow or orange. (That's a lot. I should simply have said "better not paired with red, maroon or dark pink friends.)

My plant toughed it out in a pot for a couple of years. Branching was remarkable the second year in the ground, as you can see in the following picture. Compost pays off. Really thick scapes held candelabra 5-way branching, with wonderful budcount. Knocked my socks off! (This past year held late frost and a dry spring, and branching decreased to 2-way, with lower much lower budcount. Scapes ranged from 20" to 24" in height.) The SEV foliage is robust, but doesn't engulf the blooms. Here in 7a, I usually get the first blooms around June 17 to 20th. I would call that mid-season.

When blooms bouquet, things can get a little crowded. Blooms are loaded with pollen.

And rebloom started mid-July. Rebloom is light, I suspect because of a lack of watering on my part and the fact that the plants put so much into their main show. Here you can see pod fertility on original and instant rebloom scape. Pollen is also fertile. July 20, the initial scapes are finishing, so they lasted a floriferous month. Things would be prettier if one deadheaded, but I think pods are Lovey dubby

Justine has done a wonderful assessment of this daylily. I just wish ours would develop the 24" scapes and numerous bud count that Kinnebrew lists, but alas--doesn't happen here, probably because it is in a place where tree roots can undermine it, plus the mostly shady spot won't help. Nevertheless, the blooms that we get are lovely, and it will be staying. This spring a new planting place may open up and this one can be moved where it can really show off. I am posting these pictures that I consider the best to show the black color and the shimmer that is a lovely feature.
