As a comment about Daisy Flowered Mum (Chrysanthemum x morifolium Mammoth™ Lavender Daisy), foraygardengirl wrote:

Mammoth Lavender is a beautiful mum, but you must allow room for it in your garden. It has grown too large for the spot where I planted it. It also needs to be divided every other year or it will split and not grow upright. It is a nice color and blooms a bit earlier than other hardy mums in my garden.

Thread OP

Does this variety need to be pruned like other varieties of mums until July? I've seen some commercial websites that say it does not need to be pruned.

I don't prune mine. I do "pinch" off just a bit (if I remember) in June.

Old gardeners never die. They are just pruned and repotted.
