We had a great Daylily Show today. We had a member from another club, the MS Gulf Coast Daylily Society, show up thank goodness or we would have been hurting for entered scapes. We had a total of 99 scapes entered and she brought 43 of them. Normally I bring 30-40 and all I could get was 16. Either things were about bloomed out or just not opened. Anything that would have required a lot of grooming I just left in the garden. Fred usually brings quite a bit also and he only had 19 to enter.

I'm going to have to get a different colored backdrop for the photos because it seems to distort the colors somewhat with the black and then the lighting that the mall has.

I was pretty d--n proud of Michele yesterday, she works her butt off for these things, and to bring so few daylilies and win over half of the awards it shows her dedication to the daylily, the club, and AHS. I have been in this stuff a long time and have never seen anyone learn as much in such a short time as Michele has. I am now asking her about daylily related things instead of her asking me. Congratulations Lady!!

I have basically the same photos so I want post any.

Congratulations to you, Fred and all of your club members for a superb job with your 2013 show. Lots of hard work is involved in pulling off something of this magnitude. Sounds as if the sale went well too. Great pictures also for any who haven't seen an Exhibition. May I use a couple of your pics on the Judges page of the Member Portal? ( if they will download? ) How many panels of judges did you have? I'm getting ready to judge 3 shows this year and am looking forward to it! Our shows in Region 3 are spread out so there's a lot of driving involved. ( that part isn't fun.) We have one show weekend with the Pittsburgh show on Saturday and the NCDC ( National Capital Daylily Society) show on Sunday. It is held in Silver Spring, MD. The Richmond VA show is coming up in just 2-3 weeks. too. Can't believe bloom season is coming on so quickly. I saw the first scapes here yesterday.

Yes Juli you can use any photos you would like. If they don't download just let me know and I can email them. I think next year I am going to designate a member to do photos because I end up missing a lot and then take them quickly because I'm busy with show stuff.

We had 2 panels of judges. The first year I joined the club and entered the show the person in charge at that time got only one panel and the judging took way too long. So when I took over now chair the show I make sure we have 2 panels. I would rather have too many judges and they get done quicker than to have 1 panel and then they may feel rushed to get done for the public opening. I believe the basic guideline is 1 panel for every 60-80 scapes.

Thanks, Michele. Yes, it is better to have more panels of judges when possible. All the shows I have judged use either 3 or 4 panels, and even then, sometimes the going is slow if you get a person who is very long winded ( but the chair tries to move it along.) But one panel would take forever. You mean you were show chair as well as everything else? Gee whiz. You surely do deserve a lot of credit. A photographer would be a great idea!

It looks like you and Fred had some wonderful winners at the show. Congrats! I like that your club has the show at a mall, so more people learn about daylilies. I wish my club would do that.

Awesome Michelle and Fred!!

My first iris show ever was at a mall. It got lots of attention it otherwise would not have gotten. Later our shows were at the new Botanical Gardens Arboretum.

I tip my hat to you. Thanks everyone. I was sooooo happy that Fred won Best in Show with LILLIAN'S VAPOR TRAILS. It truly was the best!!!

Yes Juli, I am club president, therefore, since no one wanted to be show chair I took that job as well Blinking I pretty much have it organized pretty good especially since I got us in at the mall and I don't have to look for a place each year and check costs. We have lots of members who will work their butts off; they just don't want the responsibility of having a position.
I don't mind doing it; it gets stressful at times but it is well worth it. Green Grin!

What was really hectic is when the Mobile club had their show and we had ours the day after. Fred, me, and James Hall enter both shows as well as me and Fred working the show. I help with clerking and placement in Mobile so I don't have to worry about the whole thing Whistling We are going to start having them on different weekends so it doesn't wear us out as much.

Michele, I posted many of your images on the AHS Portal ( giving you credit of course.) These are in a photo album on both the Exhibition Judges Only page and Exhibition Judges General Information page. Great addition !! Any AHS member can visit the General information page and any member can add/ download images to this folder if you have other show images. If any others of you have a show and would like an album for your show pictures, let me know and I will create one! I love looking at pictures of shows, but it is such a great idea to have a designated photographer. Hoping to lug my camera along for the shows I'll be visiting this year.
Thanks Michele for letting me use your images on the Portal.
