I planted the two shown some three years ago. One was damaged by one of the falling vinyl fence sections. I dug around the root ball to feed and I noticed the ball was too firmly packed hard and dried out. I use Osomote to feed a lot of my plants, I dug down and fed with the hope it will bounce back. Some of the branches seem to be damaged which may need to be pruned. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would say the hard dry root ball was your problem - you rhodies were potted in peat moss most likely and when that dries out, in or out of the ground, it's almost impossible to re-wet it unless you use hot water. Unless you see lots of roots coming out of that root ball I would suggest you dig them all up ASAP, remove all the potting mix (which will be easy to do as it's dry) and replant. Don't fertilize until they show signs of improving (it's like feeding a sick person with a 5 star meal D'Oh! they won't eat)

Thanks so much for this long-awaited response. I guess the burlap which was wrapped in wasn't the proper type to allow for overall water saturation. I'll get on it as soon as possible. Much appreciated.

I just dug and opened up the root system and replanted it without any fertilizer. One of which seems the roots are a little more prevalent than the other. We are due for some heavy precip for the next few days, so I would assume I've taken the right steps. Hopefully, your much-appreciated advice will pay some dividends and whatever else you can offer will be most helpful.

Hoping you spread out the roots when you planted and that if you didn't get that rain you have since given the rhodie a good watering Crossing Fingers!

This is the current status of these Rhodos. I would simply like to know if you think reviving them is possible. I don't know what may have happened but I kept them irrigated, however, they both appear to be in a bad state. I hate to give up. So I pretty much rely on whatever help this forum suggests. Please advise
