I've been looking for the name of this. It's similar to fang and claw but it is not. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions on this photo please . It's a beautiful daylily.

When you got it?

I don't believe I did.I actually believe that this is the bonus day lily that I received from Smokeys a few years ago as a gift. It had not been registered. I posted a lost tag a few weeks ago with a picture but I believe this is it. The blooms are 5" a d the scapes are tall. That's just me guessing but this lily does put on a show. Sometimes the blooms are much lighter.

If anyone knows anything about this lily I would appreciate any info. The blooms are about 5 to 6 inches and it has about 5 scapes with 3 way branching. It is a busy lily as I'm getting 5 to 6 blooms per day. I'd love to find the name. Thanks so much.

Do you see the bumpy pattern on the bud. It hasn't been doing this and it's not on all of them. Is it something I should be concerned about?

I have been told that it might be thrip damage, I had very little of those humps last year and I have sprayed for thrips for three years in a row now, but this year I have seen a lot of those little humps. I am not yet totally convinced it is from thirp, but not saying that it is not from thrip damage either. When the bloom opens it does not seem to affect the bloom surface.

@mariemoye, do you still have the invoice or packing slip from Smokey's for that order? If you do (I save all mine for this reason) you may be able to figure it out by a process of elimination. Or, if it really was a gift, then you should have the name of the gift on the packing slip.

I thought the bumps were caused by thrips also and that was what caused the blotches on the blooms, but it seems the jury is still out. Shrug!

Thank you to who commented. I have never heard of this so I better read up on it. The last couple years has been odd as it is. They've never done this.I have the tag that reads its a bonus plant without a name.I wish they would just send an extra fan of something you bought. But again Thank you as I read about this and look for that slip. I will update my status.Y'all are the best! Thank You!

Added another photo to this showing a beauty of a flower that just needs a name. I believe it's supposed to looke like this. I thinned it last year and have another plant and the bloom on it is the same as the other. I will list one more picture of the new bloom.

his is the bloom off of the plant that I divided last year. It's the first bloom on this plant and is across the yard from the other one.

Smokey's has a long history of 'gifts' without a tag ... largely because, they 'gift' unregistered daylilies ... probably discards from their own crosses. Angry I, too, have received 'unknown' daylilies from Smokey's...

Yes, a gift is a gift ... not something they are obligated to send, so it's a 'take it or leave it' extra. But I tag 'all' my garden plants and 'unknowns' are not really welcome. I agree: an extra fan of one you ordered would be better than an unregistered 'gift'. Which is why I no longer buy from Smokey's. Shrug!

But all that aside... I have had at least a half dozen 'registered' daylilies purchased from them which were supposed to be double fans... only to discover, when they bloomed, that 'one' fan was true to the name I purchased but the second fan was an unidentified something else. - Which is why I 'really' don't buy from them any more.

To be fair: any daylily garden or nursery could send the wrong plant in error... it's not that it never happens, it's what they do about it when the error occurs that counts. As for identifying what you received from Smokey's ... send 'them' a picture of it and ask them what it is.

They have the best chance of giving you the correct name (as they already have elminiated tens of thousands of daylilies just by restricting the possibilities to daylilies they actually grow).
Life is what happens while you are making other plans.

I second Dianne's suggestion. Smokey's is the only one who can tell you what they sent. It sounds likely that it is an unregistered daylily, in which case you can decide what to do with it. It seems from your posts that you like the plant, so keep it and enjoy it.

Thank you all so much. I do intend to keep it. It has 8 to 10 blooms at one time. It really does put on a show with the ever changing colors. No two are alike but they are large blooms and a head turner for sure. I am going to contact Smokey's and send pictures. Perhaps they'll help. If not I still have a lovely daylily. I do however would like a name. A parents name. ❤️Thank you again and my hope is a wonderful day for all. ❤️❤️❤️🙏🏻

Thank you all for taking the time to help me figure this out. I appreciate it so much. I was able to look back and found 4 names of daylilys I have. I was able to identify 2 in my garden so that's a step forward. ❤️❤️❤️❤️Thanks again!❤️🙏🏻

Great! You will probably be able to identify all four eventually. Such a good feeling!
