So I've moved, bought iris, moved iris around, my mother passed away and I brought as much of her plants as I could and also gave some out to family this beauty bloomed today.. I have a list of all the iris my mom and I bought over the years and I'm pretty sure this is lady friend. The only other russet/red burgundy Iris I have is Gotham city. What do y'all think lady friend or something else

Assuming it must be either Lady Friend or Gotham City, I am inclined to think it is Lady Friend based on the photos I can find. I don't have Gotham City, but I do have Lady Friend.

I have Lady Friend, and unless your camera's color is way off, yours is not it.

Here is a link to the database, showing lots of pictures of Lady Friend if you scroll down to see them. Tall Bearded Iris (Iris 'Lady Friend') . It is not brownish at all, unlike most "red" irises.

Nor do I think that it is Gotham City, because almost all photos of that show a white and violet blaze below the beard. Yours does not have that.

D'Oh! Thanks Daisy. I was so focussed on working out which of the two named cultivars it might be that I just wrote off the colour difference as a colour cast in the image!

The color in the photos on the database range from a pinky red to russet. red shades are one of the hardest colors for cameras to capture here it is today which is vastly different from
Yesterday. Today is overcast. I think the photos joy posted were closest to mine in real life

Lady Friend is truly pinky red. And the huge majority of the photos show it as it is - much more pinky red than the photos you have selected out. Also yours is different in form having a lot more folds.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it's red enough, nor has the form to be Lady Friend.

I would like to suggest that if you think it is Lady Friend that you buy a known Lady Friend and plant it close to yours for comparison, before labeling it as that.

I agree with Daisy. Your flower is not red enough to be Lady Friend. Here is a picture of Lady Friend growing in my garden:

There's also the lighter flash around the beard.. Ladyfriend, to my eye looks older than yours..
Joe's Iris all have a tidyness, balance, and grace of form that I think is lacking in the picture above.

Hi Dana, Your iris looks more "ruffly" than Lady Friend. Maybe a more recent intro?

I am sorry for the delay, but I had to wait for the flowers to open. If you are not sick of hearing about it, this is my Lady Friend with no guessing. I am not sure if it helps, just thought I would put it out there.
I have noticed that flower colors are deeper and more intense in this part of Oregon than southern California, if that is of any use.

Colors of iris are deeper and more intense in cooler temperatures, I've noticed. Nice bloom of Lady Friend!
