Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Halloween Green')

I absolutely *love* Halloween Green and it does well for me here in SE Michigan, zone 5b. I don't count buds, but there are always a LOT of them. One thing I will say that I noticed last year is the scapes are definitely taller than 24" here in my garden. One of my friends saw a picture I had of it with Pinewood Lily Pad which is next to it, and asked about the height when she compared the registered height of HG to PLP. So last fall I measured the scapes and this is what they were in my garden: scape heights were 33-36" on the three I measured - the other two I had cut to bring the pods in, in Oct. HG is on the north end of the big daylily bed and that is the end that is closest to the woods, with big oaks and hickorys - but it's certainly not under them. All the scapes on that end of the bed lean a bit toward the sun/south.

Halloween Green was a gift from Darla Wilkinson of Greywood Farms. She knew I liked it and just sent me three fans in the mail, randomly…nice lady!

So HG was planted in May of 2021. No flowers and by Fall it was still at three fans.
In April 2022, still three fans but bloomed 28 flowers from July 3-25.
October of 2022, still three fans
April 2023…still three fans! Well, at least it hasn't lost any!

Mine seems to be about the right height. The flower is wonderful and cheerful, it's easy to see that it's a parent for Mayor of Munchkinland. Very unique looking.

I bought several Japanese irises from Darla and she is exceptionally generous and very nice.

2023 update… a big year for HG! It bloomed from June 29- July 28 with at least 23 flowers and by October had grown to 6 fans! That means it doubled in size this year!
