I have never seen a fasciated scape in my garden before and am curious about this one on Sears Tower. It is 2in in width and appears to be super loaded in buds. Does anyone have experience in scape fasciation? I expect this is just a fluke but an interesting one.

I had a couple last year on Hemerocallis minor, they were curled as well as fasciated. Some info on fasciation from the ADS Daylily Dictionary:

Thanks Sue. Very interesting pic. My scape has a bend but that is quite a crazy curl. I am hoping my scape is able to bloom normally. We shall see.

I've had quite a few over the past few years. You usually get double the number of buds on them.

I have had quite a few fasciated scapes. They mostly look like two scapes fused together so twice the number of buds as a single scape.

As you can see the fasciated scape on 'War Horse' looks like three scapes fused. I have had other fasciated scapes over the years but those photos are not on this hard drive. I am thinking that I have had up to four fused scapes, just how many I wonder is the most fused scapes anyone has had.
Fasciated scape of 'War Horse' in bloom.

I was about to start a thread devoted to the fasciated (just learned that term) scape on Cosmic Struggle but while trying to see how to do that I discovered this thread. I bought this as a decent sized plant around late July of last year and had a few blooms. It's from Jewel Grocery store, where I've gotten some very nice varieties in the last few years. I'm attaching the first bloom of this season (on a normal scape) and also views of the huge scape that has nearly 40 total buds! I have a feeling that the buds that do manage to open will get in the way of each other.

Wow, Nancy. That is definitely one big fasciated scape! I'm afraid the blooms will get into each others way too. But what a fascinating thing to watch. Please post more pictures as they bloom:)
