This was growing wild in my back yard, behind a shed where I wasn't watering it at all. It's about 2 ft tall.

I think you have a mimic there.
Ural False-spirea - Sorbaria sorbifolia is very cold hardy, but not known for being excessively showy. It makes its best use as a spreading/colonizing ground cover with fine/feathery foliage habit.

regardless, it's not as someone suggested - a Chinese Elm, so not an invasive plant. There's only one & it's nowhere near water.
