I used to grow PRINCE OF MIDNIGHT. I removed it from the garden last year. I loved the saturated color and the chalky watermark. The only feature of the bloom that I did not like was the twisting of the sepals. My personal preference is for uniformity of the blooms. I felt that the blooms of PRINCE OF MIDNIGHT were unruly. It did well in my zone 5 garden without any mulching for the winter. It reached its registered scape height. It increased at a moderate rate.

POM was planted in May of 2021 and by October was up to 3 fans. It was still 3 fans in April of 2022 and bloomed from July 4-25 with 10 blooms. Most of those were blotchy until the last few. I can also see from my photos that I should have had a lot more bloom, but because of the heat and drought, the plant aborted its buds.

I can see that twisty petal thing but I find that charming. I don't mind motion in the Daylilies, it becomes a sort of Unusual form then.

By October, POM had a light case of rust but was up to 5 fans. This April, it doubled and now has 10 fans….so I have some expectations!

2023…all those fans and very little happened. POM bloomed from July 9-19 with 8 blooms. Sigh…really underwhelming. However, it did put on even more fans to end the season with 11. Ok, it better flower like crazy next year!
