Maybe horse nettle.
It produces some blooms that look like potato flowers, even attracts potato bugs... They raise their families on it!

The roots tend to form colonies of plants all hooked together.

Personally, I find that pulling on sight gives adequate control... I grab the plant at the base, and avoid getting a handful of thorns.

I agree, it's likely the native Horse Nettle (Solanum carolinense) which is found in many Florida Counties, including Volusia.
