I got this two years ago and it began blooming this year.

The buds never open but a little bit. It took me a while to stop picking them off thinking they were spent blooms - that's how closed they are.

Does anyone else grow it and observe this to be the case?

I have it and have not noticed any buds not opening. Here are a couple photos from last year...

Can you post a picture to show what they look like?

Notify Ground Crew is nocturnal. New blooms start to open early - mid afternoon for me at the same time blooms from the previous afternoon are closing. It's very easy to mix them up and live head old and new blooms. I stopped live heading it for that reason and only do so if there is a garden tour the next day. The blooms don't open flat, they tend to be more trumpet shaped.

I don't know if this is what you are seeing. As Sooby said a picture might help.

If you haven't done so, take a look at the plant late afternoon, around 5. On a healthy plant growing with adequate sun, new blooms will be open by then.

I deadhead all my daylilies daily, doing so in the early morning. At that time, Notify Ground Crew looks like the blooms are just beginning to close. This has become the only daylily in my garden that I wait until afternoon to deadhead.
