Hello Gardeners,
What is the name of this Daylily?
Thumb of 2023-07-30/Samlav/69886e

Thank you!
Samlav
P.S.
Can the seed of this plant be swapped? I have read that they don't always grow true to form if they are hybrids. I was impatient when I planted it because it did not grow fast enough so I dug it up. Now I'm sorry. It was in my neighbor's yard.

Sorry I do not recognize it.

People do swap or trade or purchase daylily seed , but daylily seed do not produce an exact match of the parent plant and often may produce seedlings that do not have a close resemblance to the parent plant.

I have read that they don't always grow true to form if they are hybrids.
Not all daylilies are hybrids but the vast majority of daylilies found in modern gardens are hybrids and do not grow true from seed. There are Species daylilies but they are not the normal ones grown in gardens, but some people do grow them.

Hi, saw your post and just wanted to say, great picture , but any chance of id'ing the plant would need much more info, such as , height of plant , time of bloom in the daylily season ( i.e. extra early, early, early mid , mid , mid late or late ), and whether it is a dip or a tet.
From the info available that I have seen this is not a species daylily and with over 90,000 registered daylilies id'ing a plant is very very very difficult . If you want to collect seed and trade or sell you would have to list the seed as unknown x unknown , unless you do know the name of the pollen donor plant. Then it would be unknown x the name of the pollen donor plant. Hope this helps.

As of today, there are 98,835 registered daylilies. So even with us knowing all of the stats, such as bloom size, ploidy, scape height, branching and budding, bloom season, foliage habit, etc. at best all we will get is an educated guess. I'm sorry, but that's the honest truth. So either grow it happily as an unknown red daylily, or toss it. There are lots of good affordable daylilies that can fulfill many landscaping needs/ wishes. Many in this forum can give you great recommendations for your climate.
