I see small flower with 4 stamens around the edge of the pedals
Just learned that pennyroyal is toxic.
I am so scared since I made pesto with it.

Pennyroyal flowers grow in whorls. Your spiked plant looks like a mint flower. Leaves are different, too.
Mint pesto? Interesting. With garlic, pinenuts and parmesan cheese?

Mentha pulegium/Pennyroyal essential oil is toxic. I'm not an expert but would assume you'd probably have to ingest quite a large amount of fresh plant material for it to have the same effect as essential oil.
