Glyphosate (Roundup) is less acutely toxic than table salt and less carcinogenic than tobacco, coffee or french fries.

Yes, used properly glyphosphate is safe. It breaks down almost immediately on contact with soil, producing a sort of soap by-product. This is why the label states that it is safe to allow humans and animals access to sprayed areas after the product has dried. HOWEVER, as with any chemical (and that includes vinegar, soapy water, etc.) always wear protective clothing and wash hands, face, etc. well afterwards. Also I make it a rule to always rake through any vegetation I'm going to spray to make sure no little animals or insects are hiding in it before I spray.
