Agree, the soil looks very wet and possibly peaty. They do best in extremely sharp, well-draining media, something like a cactus mix with a lot of pumice or perlite added. If those planters don't have drain holes in them your plants will not survive. You should be able to water them without the risk of their roots remaining soggy. Are they getting full sun?
The flowers don't last indefinitely. If you trim off the spent blooms an inch or so into the leafy stalk, next spring's bloom flush will be bushier. Some early blooming varieties can give you a second, smaller bloom later in the summer if they like their care and conditions. I have several—both potted and in-ground—and a second bloom is sort of hit or miss, but the potted ones always require a hard trim immediately after blooming with a light feeding.
I didn't trim several of mine this summer, so they are all still covered with spent blooms. This Munstead started blooming late May was at the height of her display in mid-June
and has looked like this since ~mid-July.
