Hi,

I had trouble with deer eating my green arborvitae in the spring (they were probably at it in the winter too but I didn't notice). I sprayed the trees a few times, then planted catmint and marigold nearby, and things got better. Thinking ahead once the summer is over, what can I do to keep the deer at bay again in the fall and winter?

I also planted some skip laurels this year, and I understand they are deer resistant, is that correct? Should I be doing anything for them as well?

Thank you

<i>Thuja occidentalis</b> eastern white cedar, is one of the WT deer's favorite food. If they are small enough (the trees, not the deer), wrapping them with burlap or utilizing in winter will thwart the efforts of most deer, and offers the added advantage of reducing foliage death due to desiccation from direct sun and wind in winter when water is unable to move throughout the tree. It will work on taller trees as well, as long as you wrap as high as 6-8 feet. Deer are well known for their ability to get at normally out-of-reach foodstuffs by standing on their hind legs.

As an alternate, you could make circular enclosures of welded galvanized steel fencing that comes in up to 6 ft rolls of varying lengths.

.... can't say about the laurels - sort of need to know how large they are, but the wire would likely work for them if required.
