Does anyone know how to get rid of "suckers" aroud trees. I've got many of them around my two crepe myrtle trees. I don't want to spray weed killer on them for fear that it will kill the tree.

You are correct. You do not want to spray weed killer on them. It could kill the tree. Normally, you would pull the suckers up and cut the root off as close to the tree as possible. There are some chemical products that are available to spray at the cut to delay the regrowth of a new sucker. I have not tried any of them so I can not say that they work:) or are safe.

I pulled the suckers off my big Crepe Myrtle for years and finally, it just gave up suckering. The apples on the other hand.... grumble! I use Sucker Punch, its pricey but works well.

Thanks for the reply and advice. I'll try Sucker Punch. I've heard of it but never tried it.
