Terrafirma, I guess phalaenopsis means Orchid? Anyway I've learned a new word, thanks.

Terrafirma, one more thing... It was given to me and it came in a very small pot. Should I replant it in a larger pot? Should it be wattered very little?

No don't repot. They prefer tight ish conditions. Could you post a picture of the pot? Also showing the medium it's growing in?

This is a link to the database for this plant, Moth Orchid (Phalaenopsis)
In this link you'll find the generic info, and if you scroll past the beautiful pictures, you'll find "comments" related to these. Much to learn.

And this is a link to the variety that it "could" be, Orchid (Phalaenopsis Sogo David)

edit to add... We also have an orchid forum with a wealth of information, and starting here, The thread "🗣 Starting out with Phals/Supermarket Orchids 🛎 ✍️" in Orchids forum
would be the goto for learning about these beauties!

to either @w6gpm or @terrafirma:
what is the size of your particular Phal and what qualifies it as dwarf/miniature? I ask because I have this plant and another similar (yellow petals are sans polka-dot pattern), but both are definitely full size Phalaenopsis (both were from the dying-dead-we-can't-selll-it shelf at big box home improvement store (Lowe$). Aluminum scale is 6 In / 15cm. Please excuse the abuse scars of the specimen on right, during the winter my cat decided he'd explore concepts of passive-aggressive comradery with his new pal, Phal Rolling my eyes.

Hi @terrafirma - the OP plant (and mine also) are phalenopsis that keep their #4 & #5 petals hidden ( I'm not a botanist so my nomenclature is imprecise. pls see image) yet the Sogo David keeps them 'deployed'?

The dwarf/miniature Phals are only about 6 or 8 inches wide. That's the whole plant, not just one leaf. And they have smaller flowers, only 1 to 2 inches instead of 3 or 4. They are much shorter plants also - I've seen standards with bloom spikes 3 feet tall but miniatures only get to about 15 inches.

Hi vanamonde!
I don't believe that the OP posted a picture of a true miniature phal. He received it from his daughter, and she said that it was a mini orchid. I don't believe that is the case.
I believe Lucy's description is correct for dwarf/miniatures, though all of mine are the full size. I've not grown any of the minis.

As to the #4, and #5, an anomaly maybe? I'm not sure. I was hoping to see additional pics from the OP, but alas, the thread was marked identified, without additional photos. Shrug!

I agree The OPs orchid is a standard size. Color has nothing to do with standard vs miniature.
