Welcome to The Porch Swing!

Everyone is welcome to join us on the Porch Swing. A thread where we talk about cooking, books, pets, birthdays, TV, the area where we live, anything that isn't on topic for the regular daylily threads. The subject on the Porch Swing is always changing.

Don't worry about reading all of the thread, just jump right in. We're sure you'll enjoy visiting with us.

We have many threads covering a wide variety of information on the topic of Daylilies. The Daylily Forum has two threads for off topic discussion - Weather In Your Garden for weather related chat and The Porch Swing for all non-daylily messages and chat.

When a new Porch Swing thread is posted, the old Porch Swing threads will be left up for a few days, then periodically deleted, so be sure to copy any items out of the old thread that you want to keep when you see a new thread is up.

* All other off topic threads in the Daylilies Forum will be relocated to the appropriate Forum. If you inadvertently post an off topic thread to the forum, please let me know and I'll move it into its proper place, and if I see it before you do, I'll let you know by Tree-mail that I moved the thread.*
* This is a daylily discussion forum. Many of our members come here to relax and get away from the constant barrage of advertisements, spam, robocalls etc. in our everyday life. While we talk about hybridizing, hybridizers, websites, gardens, growers, sellers, purchasing plants and products, pretty much everything daylily, there is no selling or advertising in the Daylilies forum threads or posts. NGA has its own forum, the Classified and Group Buys Forum, for advertising sales. Sale and advertising threads in the Daylilies forum will be moved to the Classified forum. Individual posts in threads may also be moved to the Classified forum and/or the member will receive a tmail from me. *

A dolorous day here, very grey and depressing. Starting to rain, which it will do until Tuesday. I finally turned on the heat and closed the windows, to celebrate Fall. 63 high, 56 low.

Haha, I think I got this confused with the weather thread! Super hoping that the brides this weekend aren't silly enough to insist on an outdoor wedding…you'd be surprised!

Too hot, here - already 82 at noon and rising. My recently acquired daylilies and irises are loving it, though. My dogs knocked one over Glare , but there were enough new roots to keep all the soil from spilling out Thumbs up . I'm getting a few tomatoes and okra and lots of peppers. I'll be digging up sweet potatoes in another month.

Just an odd follow up to the grocery store robot. Today I saw he was more famous than I anticipated, you can even get merchandise featuring him.

In other news, it may be fall but my yard thinks it is Spring again. Confused

Feel like I should be sitting on the flower beds to stop any daffs and hyacinths from popping up. Sticking tongue out

Yes, Linda
I am more and more surprised by what a garden can do when the weather gets weird.

Technically, it is Spring though in the southern hemisphere from today. My yard must be geographically confused. Hilarious!

Well, these aren't banners yet but I got some nice photos in the dinner tent where we played and got piped into the open tent where the wedding was.

A package came this week that held a bunch of bubble wrap in large sheets. Researched to see if it was advisable to repurpose it in the garden rather than send it to the landfill. The gardening hack that surprised me most was to lay bubble wrap down around those garden beds bothered by deer. When they step on it and pop the bubbles, it scares them away. Wonder if it would work with groundhogs?

I cannot contemplate an outdoor wedding without recalling the incident at Lake Rathbun. Someone had fished a carp out of the lake, and abandoned it on the bank. The vultures started circling the fish, and then became attracted to the wedding altar, coming in lower and lower, until they were practically landing on the bride and groom. Not my idea of a good omen, but heck! Those two kids are still married and doing well. Blue Harbor Resort gave us messy seagulls coming in uncomfortably close to the festivities. The father of the bride was primed and ready to defend the very expensive dress his daughter was wearing. I'm happy that my own kids chose to get married inside of churches instead!

Lovely, Ginny! Lovey dubby

Most brides want an outdoor wedding, even in horrible weather, at least in my long wedding experience.
