I've come across many youtube videos of people rooting store bought bananas in compost, I'm am not sure whether this would work and if it is possible to do so it will probably take a few tries. I remain with an open mind on this.

Does this work, can you really root a banana to get a banana plant?

Contrary to popular belief, bananas do have seeds. The varieties that are raised strictly as ornamental plants (there are many bananas that are considered inedible because they have very little flesh and are almost all seeds) can be grown from seed or by composting the bananas. But the type you buy at the supermarket cannot

Examples of bananas that are commonly grown from seed include these.

There are many many others that can be grown from seed, but are not edible

Oh wow I didnt know banana's have seeds? I should have asked, which videos the OP has seen. I love the color of the last one!

The you tube I based my answer to are definitely not the ornamental ones. If you search online about growing banana 🍌 from fruit and click on videos, they are doing a lot of "unbelievable" videos of growing banana fruit into a banana tree with edible fruits. Sometimes they would glue roots on a banana fruit. Rolling on the floor laughing

I've seen that crap too. Its so silly. That is why I almost never look at YouTube for plant related things. There's too much misinformation.

The bananas that are cultivated for food are actually a very small group of bananas in the larger scheme of the genus Musa. One of the most popular with home gardeners is Musa basjoo, which comes from Japan, and is used in the textile industry there. It is really popular here because it is really, REALLY cold hardy. The blooms are nice, but the bananas never get over about 1.5-2" long. There aren't any seed to speak of though. These propagate by division
