In an outright show of defiance against impending winter, and despite snow showers this morning, I found Witches Hand and a rebloom scape from In Mom's Honor blooming. Western CT, zone 5b.

I finally went out and cut the scapes from them and the 4 from Stella's Ruffled Fingers and brought them inside.

For the record, we have not officially had a frost and yesterday my rebloom scape from Lily Munster bloomed her last flower and Barbara still has one or two small blooms left.
What a weird autumn!

Of course, she may send up another scape! You never know. Crossing Fingers!

Substantial Substance and Butterscotch Ruffles still have a few buds. I am hoping that next year, Genesta will join the late party. This is her first year in my garden, so I can't be too disappointed.

Voila Francois is trying really hard to join the November party. We had 30 degrees overnight, but temps got up to 55 today. We covered her with a trash can last night and will do the same tonight. Maybe a bloom tomorrow?

Orion! That seedling is beautiful!

Nothing bloomed for me. I covered a ton of tender stuff. I cut a bunch of late pods and put them in water to finish. Some of these are older than 45 days but still not cracking or even browning. I wonder if it takes seeds longer to mature in chilly weather?

How nice to see blooms in November. I can honestly say I've never had a November bloom before, but I brought Toby vs Godzilla inside for its last hurrah along with some zinnias.

Thanks Robyn,
I was gonna chuck that one but decided to hang onto it for another go round the sun since I had extra space.

Despite hitting freezing point it does not seem to have been a hard freeze. The cannas usually collapse with one of those and they are still standing. Crossing Fingers!
Possibly a couple more blooms can be squeezed out this month.

After walking around the yard, that was my conclusion too, Orion. Even the Mandevilla are still standing and they are the first to get frosted.

Today, I have the exact same blooms as yesterday, seemingly frozen in time. I took pictures of them to post, just because it's kind of cool how they can become Three Daylilies this time of year ( as in, open for three days).

Happy Returns had one short scape with a few buds; knowing there was going to be a hard freeze I cut it Tuesday and brought it inside, with a few "friends". Yesterday a tiny bloom popped open. Not sure if the other buds will open, however I was glad to see even one. The friends are a little past their prime, but I knew they'd be gone and it's nice to have some color indoors.

Zoia, you are one zone cooler than I and a lot farther North so I am amazed by how many blooms you have yet. Love seeing them!

I agree, however I think the first seedling photo you posted is definitely worth keeping! That one is a beauty!

Nan, Bitsy is a champ! Crossing Fingers! you get a few more blooms yet.

Vickie, love that photo of T vs G, offset by the purple zinnia in the background!

Bitsy's LFO from yesterday still looks good today, probably because of the dip in temperature. It fell to 38 degrees last night.

Our overnight temps have gotten down to 28 degrees. Voila Francois bloomed but was hanging upside down because the stem had "melted" with the cold. I brought the bloom inside and enjoyed it for the day on the counter. There are still 2 buds left, but again, the base of them seems "melted" so I think my blooms are done for the season. It has been a good year.

In my zone 7b north Georgia garden, I found the first scapes of the season on 'Frankie's Fantasy' on April 23. The first bloom on a named cultivar was Black Eyed Stella on May 11, then Hello Polly FFE on May 12. By May 15 I had several cultivars blooming each day. My last bloom was Nov 1 (part open) Voila Francois.

The thing that amazed me the most was that over the course of the summer I added photos to the garden.org database for 121 different named cultivars. Whistling hmmm, maybe the squirrels have been bringing in daylilies from other gardens? Thinking I can't possibly have bought that many different daylilies. Big Grin Shrug!

But I've already started adding daylily names to my want list for 2024. Rolling on the floor laughing
