Hi everybody!
I'm an amateur gardener in love with roses like all of you I guess :)
Can you please help me to get some news about this rose "Famosa"?
They say it's a rose that changes colors while the corolla opens.
I found it on the web for sale only in some french online shops and I cannot find it anywhere else.... do you know if maybe it can be recognizable under other (trademark) names ?
I found 2 "famosa" named roses: one bred by Werner Noack (Germany) before 2001 (I can't include the link) and another one bred by Lendeers (Netherlands 1964); it looks like they have nothing to do with the one I'm looking for.

Thanks for your help! Smiling

Hi! I'm glad to be here Smiling As soon as the moderators will remove the restriction for new posts I will place a new thread introducing the roses of my small garden Grin

Yes, it's quite strange about the mentioned rose above... if you search on the web, you can't find it elsewhere than some online french shops... Confused

I searched, too, and couldn't find it available for America.

Editing....that was before I knew you are in Italy. Since you are in europe can you order from a nursery in France? It seemed to me that was the only country offering this rose.
Love covers a multitude of sins......thank God!

I think it's the rose by Jan Leenders.

At the top of the page click on the tab "photos" and look at the photo all the way over to the right side.

Margie, if you look at that pic on HMF, it has a notation that "one or more people think this is an incorrect picture". And it doesn't really match the description of the Leenders rose. But it's funny how that pic on HMF is from 2015, and it's the exact same pic in the French ad! I clicked on the poster's name, and they have only 2 pictures posted, both from 2015, and both look like catalog pics. Interesting...

Hi! Thanks! Beautiful! Altough it's not the same, I think it can be considered in the same range type (they have this sort of "air-brush" double color) altough the "misterious one" (I'd consider it unreal if only it should not be on sale on all those french markets :P ) should have changeant colors.
Anyway this one is pretty cool too... maybe next summer I'll check if I will be able to find it somewhere Smiling

ps : staying in this kind of roses, at the end of the summer I was trying to get from an italian producer this "Maestro" rose from McGredy (but it' was - and it's still - unavailable... and the few production they have was already booked) ... I think it's a real masterpiece

Well I had a look previously but I couldn't match it. It look like it should be the final rose color (that according to the orse description, starts in pink and it ends in red).

I also found on some french gardening forum (can't post the link) , a man that was looking for the name of his rose (and he discovered it was just the "Famosa")... here are his pics

The only discrepance is that he says that his rose has no fragrance while the french shops' ads say it has

Rickycr, Sam McGredy was famous for his "painted roses". That's the effect you are seeing in both of the roses you posted pics of. Maestro is a rose by McGredy from 1972. You'd be very lucky to get the real Maestro from the Italian vendor offering it!
I still wonder what the first rose is you posted a pic of, since it has the exact same pic on HMF from 2015 for Famosa, but doesn't look like the description of Famosa, or the other two pics posted. Fascinating that someone else in France posted pics of their rose that looks exactly like the vendor's pic. Are you able to contact the French vendor to ask about what this rose is?

Hi, thanks for your reply Smiling
On the beginning I asked the french vendor (bakker) if they could ship to Italy and they said no, but they can send it in Germany, Austria, Belgium end The Netherlands (they have the related websites for those countries).
I will try to ask if they can suggest me the name of the producer so I can contact it directly to check if they can sell to Italy or if they have some local vendors (I doubt the latter option since I can't find anything here)... we'll se if it works.

By the way, this is one of the roses I just planted few days ago (Pierre Cardin - Meilland)... I think it can be considered of the same "family" considering the particular look of these kind of roses

So, let's knock on wood for the incoming seasons Crossing Fingers!
PS the rose I just planted was with root ball and it has already started to produce branches and gems (I wonder if the words are correct - sorry Smiling )...
should I have to cover the rose with soil as they recommend for bare root roses? Thanks for your help

It didn't work.
They just told me "try to search the internet".
Well, I will try to contact some other of these french shops and we'll see if I can discover something

Excellent, rickycr. It's a lovely rose and said to be very healthy and long lived. I wish you luck with it. I've searched and cannot find it anywhere here in the states.

Hi! I received it today... bare root, it's still in the box. Today's is a little bit snowy, so I hope to be able to plant it tomorrow (although the greenhouse responsible said that it would be better to put it in the ground when the soil should be more dry... in case I should wait one or 2 days according to the weather forecasts... but, since the rose has been shipped last friday, I wonder if problems should occur if I would not plant it... what would you suggest?)
For the rest, when I'll be able, I'll try fo keep the roots in water for some hour before to plant it, then I'll cover it with soil as they recommend... shoud I also give water or not?
Thanks! Crossing Fingers!

Hi! I planted on tuesday around 2 pm (to get the most warm temperature so I could give water)... I covered it with soil, so far it looks ok.
In the night it's a little freezy (-2° celsius) but the ground is not affected. So I have good expectations... well we just have to wait some months ;)
