My daughter was given this plant & we have no clue what it is. Makes me thing of dandelion seed heads. Any help appreciated!

Can you upload a photo showing the leaves and possibly the stems? I'm having issues with my eyesight but my first thought was also Goldenrod (Solidago species); at least it reminds me of Solidago seedpods. Here are a few pictures from our database showing Goldenrod seedpods:

looks like goldenrod to me also.
some goldenrods have a bad spreading habit, others can be very well behaved.
All are valuable to pollinators.

I would like to know more about provenance...
Somebody dug out of the garden?
A freebie from a plant nursery?
Was it in bloom when given? Or already as pictured?

Thx so much for your help! You may be right. Am posting more pics! My daughter's aunt (also cldn't ID) gave it to her a few wks ago before frost.
FYI, approx 3-ft tall, leaves up entire stalk.

They do resemble Goldenrod leaves, here's one that looks quite similar:
