Just one more month until the end of this year, and it will be a brutal month for most of us: cold, wet weather and nowhere near the usual amount of color in our gardens. Many of us will have to focus on something other than gardening this month. Luckily, December is full of holidays, so there will be more socializing this month. I don't drink much during the year, but I'd never say no to a Pimm's Winter Cup or a Hot Toddy at a holiday gathering.

December is National Giving Month, and this seems to be part of the mindset of a gardener. The gardeners I know are marked by positive energy -- kindness, acceptance, empathy, and community spirit. This month's thumbnail photo, therefore, is of 'The Generous Gardener,' a tall Austin rose with pale pink blooms.

Zuzu, thank you for your nice introduction to the month of December! Smiling

You´re right, the Christmas spirit distracts from the cold bad weather.

Very nice post to begin December, Zuzu.
We had snow two days ago, but, it's all melted away now and are expecting rain, which, I hate in the winter. It often leads to icy conditions. I'm probably one of the few in here who love winter and lots of snow because it makes the lousy looking yards and bare trees look lovely. Apparently, changes of weather are actually good for us. I read a study that claimed weather that changes very little leads to depression over time, which, surprised me, but, I guess makes sense. People thrive on change and bad weather makes us appreciate pretty, sunny days that make us glad to be alive.
Love covers a multitude of sins......thank God!

Discussions of cats in gardens always reawaken fond memories of my Pepplegoose, who spent 18 years serving as a neutral background whenever needed. He would stand obediently behind rose blooms so that the colors could be registered correctly by my camera. Here he is behind 'Royal Albert Hall.'

Lovely rose Zuzu. Pepplegoose looks like my Whitey (deceased). Brings back good memories. Seeing the name you gave your cat makes me wonder how people choose names for their pets. Do they have a certain name in mind when they obtain the animal or wait to see what traits the pets have and then give them a name accordingly? Shrug! I'm seeing a lot of really cute, different names.

He was a very special kitten, so much in tune with my own moods that he seemed almost magical. Because of that, I chose to invent a name with a fairytale sound. I originally called him Pepplegosling, but then he grew into a goose.

Here's the pretty face that's not showing in the other photo.

Speaking of pets, we very suddenly lost our beautiful Maverick two weeks ago. He was my constant companion in the garden, never leaving my side, and had the sweetest disposition one could ever hope for. I miss him very much.

Mike, so very sorry for the loss of your faithful companion. Life seems so much emptier when we lose our beloved pets. It would be so wonderful if our pets could stay with us on this earth as long as we exist. How many years had he been with you?
