Is anyone interested in bulk purchasing of spring planted bulbs? I have the new ADR catalog already, complete with prices. Their minimum has gone up to $500, but that usually isn't a problem to hit. I'm guessing the others will start arriving en mass after the 1st of the year.

Is this still a possibility? I could likely use lilies... I have a particular love for orientpets (in purple, magenta, pink, cranberry colors) but could also really go for a bunch of stargazers.

Went to Trader Joe yesterday. They had big Hellebores in pots. Had white and pink/white and maroon/white blooms. I bought one. $11.99---I had to cut the pot, the roots were going around in the pot very tightly. I hope it will survive----I could not pry them loose.

I have 3 of those hellebores on the back of my kitchen counter! They were irresistible. I figured they might be a bit "tender" so kept them inside to enjoy. I'm sure mine are potbound, too, since they need watering every other day.

@RickM, are you still interested in putting an order together?

I'm not too jazzed with ADR bulbs this year. While they do have a few varieties (freesia, hymenocallis and tuberose) that Netherland Bulb Company (NBC) doesn't offer, Costco will have these varieties and at a better price. For spring bulbs and bare root plants I'm ordering through NBC. If interested LMK.

Lots of pretty pretty lilies at K van B !!

I won't order all of these (probably), but here are ethe ones I'm looking at. There's a nice 22% discount if you buy 5 bags, so let's see what we can do...:-)

I'm going to plant stargazers alternating with and slightly forward of the orienpets. Stargazers and Happy Smile (or Magic Star) will alternate in another area, and Starlight will go into a border in the front yard.

Orienpet or "Giant" lilies
1 bag Leslie Woodriff (Love love love this variety!)
1 bag Pink Brilliant
1 bag Empoli

Oriental
5 bags Stargazer
2 bags Big Smile OR 2 bags Magic Star (double)
1-2 bags Starlight (shorter "border" variety)

Jill, I have 2 catalogs from NBC: Garden Center Spring Catalog and Wholesale Perennial Catalog. The Garden Ctr catalog offers pkg of 16 Stargazer lilies for $26. They also have a blend called Stargazing in Morocco, a pkg of 36 bulbs for $39. The Wholesale Perennial Catalog has 30 Stargazer lilies for $36 ($1.20 each) or 200 bulbs for $130.00 ($0.65 each). Didn't see other varieties you mentioned by name but lilies may go by additional names. For example NBC doesn't have a lily named Pink Brilliant (although K van Bourgondien does). To me Pink Brilliant looks like Dizzy.

whups, don't know how I got the impression yesterday that NBC had merged with KvB... oh, I see... if you search for NBC you find a link to Netherland Bulb Company / KvanB -- really the link to KvB, but indicating that they are in fact a Netherland bulb company LOL.

I did find the NBC website just now. Let me look up bulb size...

Lisa, I can't figure out how to find prices at NBC. Online, I can look at the digital catalog for spring, and I found bulb quantities and sizes, but not prices. https://www.netherlandbulb.com... Help!

I'd be willing to get 20-30 stargazer lilies, just wouldn't get other oriental lilies if I got lots of stargazers, but I would prefer the larger 16-18 cm size. KvB has both that size and smaller bulbs available. aha, I found the 16 Stargazers you mentioned, and they're 16-18 cm bulbs, I just don't see the $26 price. (I don't mean I think you're making it up -- I just want to be able to find prices myself if I can!) Lovey dubby

The Pink Brilliant at KvB is an Orienpet hybrid. Dizzy is an Oriental (and a shorter one, around 2 ft tall if I remember correctly).

ADR has almost no oriental lilies in its spring catalog this year, and that's what I was most interested in. I don't want bare root divisions from ADR, since we've had variable luck with those in the past. (Summarizing my exchange with Walter one year, they source them from another company and have been having trouble finding a reliable partner.)

Lisa, if you place an order with NBC, please include 16 'Stargazer' ($26 plus tax/shipping) for me. If you or anybody else want some, I'll take as many as 24, but I do want to stick with the 16-18 cm size.

NBC has a "Tiger blend" that to me doesn't look like tiger lilies but like a blend of oriental lilies (maybe Josephine, Dizzy, and ?). I can't get enough of the scent of oriental lilies and OT hybrids!

OK, I'll try that... sorry, Lisa, I feel very dumb or maybe I'm just looking at a different page on their site. If I enter "lily" into the plant search field, I get half a dozen things that are sold out. If I click on a lily in their spring garden center catalog, I get info on number and size of bulbs in a pack but not pricing.

I just picked up a lily mix at Costco -- 4 shades of cranberry / pink / white, haven't checked the bulb size yet. They have a really good selection of mostly named varieties. I got some bare root phlox and bleeding heart, and hosta, also calla lilies, caladiums (including my Mom's favorite Red Flash), and EE's.

Egad!!!!! I've gotten a couple of e-mails about NBC switching to digital catalogs, but hadn't looked. HUGE selection, which is problematic Whistling

I'm actually going to try to be a good boy until the job situation gets resolved.

Lisa,

I can't figure out how to get pricing. When I saerch on availablity, I get nothing. I'm looking at the wholesale perennial catalog, which might be the issue. But, what I'm interested in doesn't appear in the other catalogs.

Thanks.

Thanks for the effort Lisa. While I like epi's, I don't know what I would do with 30 plants, let alone 60. Same for the callas. I just don't have that much sunny space... yet.

I'm thinking in a few years, the whole back is going to change as old trees (100+ years) are removed. I was looking at the progression of shadows for 2 trees that may have to come out this year. I may actually be able to grow grass in the back yard next year. Oh, wait, there's still the 'crappy soil' thing going on. Sighing!
