I have a small plant of aristolochia fimbriata.
It seems that a Battus polydamas butterfly has layed its eggs on it. And now, a few beautiful caterpillars are eating the aristolochia s leaves.

It has been a cold winter for me in south Louisiana, several plants have bit the dust. I had four chrysalis that did not "hatch" from last year so i kept my butterfly cage outdoors for the winter. We had some upper 20's for a few days but yesterday I had one enclose and another today. We are having temperatures in the lower 70's and it's nice for humans and plants and even butterflies. I am eagerly awaiting spring. I hope this year is a great year for butterflies. Anole

I saw a Red Admiral today. Spring bloom has started, redbud tree is pretty!

I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority. E. B.White

The Red Admirals continue to be around, probably because the pellitory is a host plant and this year it's plentiful. I imagine nettles are doing well also, although I don't have any. ..drought wiped them out.

So far, this late winter, I've seen 2 sleepy oranges And 1 borer moth.

Red Admiral was in my greenhouse; have never seen one in my garden. Such a lovely butterfly!

The iPhone identified it for me.

Today saw it again - or another one- out in the garden. Yah!
