LOCAL (Derwood, MD) Pick-Up ONLY!

The company that I get my fern and moss from in bulk is now offering...
Virginia Bluebells: 50 for $9.99
Blue Lobelia: 50 for $49.99
Red Lobelia: 50 or $49.99
Blood Root: 50 for $56.99

(Anyone sensing a pricing them?)

Anyway, plants are available in lots of 50 or 100. They are plants native to the region and run from things like lily of the valley to the oh-so-popular 'sweet violet'. (I wonder if I could sell them some?)

To check out shipping rates, I put these into my cart:

Mayapple - 50 Plants
Blood Root - 50 Plants
Virginia Bluebells - 50 Plants

Cost summary:
Subtotal: $156.97
Shipping: $8.56 (USPS Priority) (UPS 2-Day Ground is $16.34)
Total: $165.53

$9 shipping isn't bad for 150 dormant plants.

Anyone interested in something? You can look at their offerings and either do your own, or combine with mine.

Prices are pretty good but I'm reluctant to buy dormant plugs this time of year. Have you been happy with results from this place?

I've had pretty good luck with them. They are who I buy my fern from in bulk. The one time I did have an issue, they fixed it quickly.

I see quite a few things on that website that I'd like to try. Not sure I'm interested in quantities of 50 each, but could be interested in splitting in half or thirds.

Trilliums (Great White, Yellow, Painted), Bell Wort, Squirrel Corn, Mayapple, Virginia Bluebells, Running Cedar, Maidenhair Fern

I'd probably just like to pick a few to start with and see how I do with the bare root, but this seems a great way to get mass quantities if I have success.

No RJ, they do not.

Terri,
You do realize that trillium are a form of deer food, don't you? The description says that deer eat the berries, but I doubt that they will wait. I keep trying to grow mayapples, but the deer mow them down as soon as they break through.

Maidenhair fern are finicky. I've tried them is various places in the yard with limited success. It could be that the yard just gets too dry.

I'm considering running cedar and bluebells for the wooded area. I'd much rather have that than the virginia creeper that keeps finding its way into the yard.

I can put some trillium in my deer proof hosta pen, but I'll probably go with just one variety - maybe the painted.

With maidenhair fern, did you have trouble getting them to grow from the bare root or just problems after you planted them out? I guess I am assuming you grow them first in starter pots.

If you want to halve the running cedar and virginia bluebells with me - those would be a go for me.

I have a few of the bell wort in my lemon garden and would like more. I could do a full order of that if no one else is interested.

I've tried both bare root and already potted. The result was the same. That's why I'm thinking the places I put them was too dry. I have 2 small planters in the back with them in and they've come back for the past 10 years.

I'm interested. There are so many things I would like that it's hard to choose with my budget limit so if anyone wants to split, I'm up for that. Otherwise, I'll get 50 of one plant to start and patiently add something each year. I'm willing to take my chances with bare roots.

I'd take 5 or 10 of so many of their offerings, maybe more depending on how the order shapes up. I'm especially interested in the Trillium (any), Spigelia marilandica (Indian Pink), Bloodroot, Hepatica. Wish they had spring beauty or bluettes!

I'd love to try some running cedar, too. Is that the one that had protected status for at least a while because it was over-harvested for making Christmas wreaths? Or am I thinking of another plant that grew in the appalachian range?

If you're ordering ferns, LMK if you're willing to split. Are their bare root plants of a size that you'd put 1 or 3 in a trade gallon pot? Do you direct plant them or pot them and let them start growing first? I'm thinking I'd like to add 5 clumps of any variety you're ordering, so that could be 25 plants.

I have more dry shade than moist shade, however, anything I could pot up and put into a water garden pot (not submerged, just with the pot an inch or two into the water) would be great. I have several large water garden pots that are in now-shaded areas, and hostas did really well in them last year!
