Many years ago, when I first got into daylilies, I had a program on my desktop called "Flower". I now have an IPad, and travel between my kids houses in different states, instead of owning my own house and loving my numerous daylily gardens. Because I still love daylilies, I enjoy buying them for my kids (yes, mostly from that addictive site The Lily Auction) and building flower gardens at their houses.

Can anyone recommend a good flower gardening program/ app that will work on an IPad? When I try to search the App Store, I find a lot of games, and some for designing a garden. I am looking more for a program similar to Flower, which I can enter my plants and the info, so I can keep track of what daylilies (and other flowers) I have purchased and where I put them. It was more of a spreadsheet that was simple for me to work with.

I used to post quite a bit here, some of the folks that have been here for years may remember me. Now I occasionally pop on to read, and review daylilies I am interested in buying on the database. Thanks!

Jan, I've looked for the same thing, to no avail. So I use the list here, on the site, where you can create your own plant list, of every category, with the advantage of direct links to the plant or flower's info entry and photos by members. There is space for notes. The one thing it doesn't have, which I wish it did, is the ability to individually search your list for a flower. You have to scroll through all your entries ( you can whittle it down to one kind "Daylilies" but for me, that's still close to 1,000 plants, so not that helpful. Otherwise, it's great.

@Zoia It is possible to change one of your settings to help reduce the amount of scrolling needed. One of the settings is "Show how many items per page?". That can be set to a maximum of 500 (temporarily if desired). You can then find any specific cultivar in your list by using the "Find in page" control+F command in the browser you use to find a specific cultivar name. After you have finished your additions/edits/etc. you can reset the value back down from 500 to your usual number of items to show. If you have more than 500 items in the list then there will still be other pages to display but that minimizes their number.

On an iPad, there isn't a find in page, control+ F function. It's like a big phone…in fact, exactly like a big phone! But it works for what I need. I usually page ahead by 5 pages at a time until I get to the page I need. My list is set to the default 20 per page.

@philljm I use my iPhone in the garden and I downloaded the app Plant Album. I think it might be what you are looking for. You can enter pictures and lots of plant info. I think you can also import info from other places but I've never used that feature. It does have a search feature. Once you have your plants entered it can sort them by name or where they are located. You can also make logs. I have several for my daylilies (branching, flower size, date of first scape, scape number, scape height, etc.). This way I can track how they perform each year. And it's free!

@Zoia Sorry, I assumed that you were using a browser like Safari on the iPad and using the plant lists on this website for your daylily cultivar list.

Zoia,
Can't you do a word search by page? Have to leave now but google how to do that.

No. I can't see how the other one would work either. I'm specifically trying to search my Daylily list here on garden.org…there doesn't seem to be a way to do that. I tried doing what it suggested but it's confusing me…I'm not all that tech.

First go to you list, if you have more than one page in your list and you know what page it is on select that page.
Just for this trail, just go to page one in your list.
In the search box you will see "garden.org', hit the x in the box to clear the box.
Type in the name of a daylily you have that would be on that page.
Slide the search box down so you can see "search this page" and click on the name you are searching for.
Just for now type in the full name, then later you can try reducing that down to fewer letters.
Then just select search and it should take you there.
Edited to add the part I left out. Sorry

Also if your search does find more than one of the items you searched for it will show (on my iphone) down at the bottom with an up and down arrow and show how many (example 4) items it found and you can just cycle through them.

@Seedfork Interesting difference between the iPhone and the Firefox Windows browser NGA web page - I don't get the option to search on this page from that search box, but I can get it from the browser Edit menu items.

Nope. Takes me to another page entirely. It's ok, I've been navigating my list here all right for years, it just takes a few extra seconds.

Thanks Mike! Recently retired, I no longer own my house and gardens, but rotate between my kids in central WI (2) my daughter in northern VA, and family property in north western PA - a portion of which was a daylily farm 60-70 years ago, and still has some old daylilies growing in the (now) wooded section.

So now I allow myself to purchase a few daylilies each year (love the auction) but they get planted all over, between WI, northern IN ( close friend rehomed some of mine, and she is now getting addicted 😁 northern OH (3 sisters live there), PA and VA.

Hence the need for a program so I can keep track of where my purchases end up!

I will try not to be such a stranger here, and pop in more often. Thanks everyone for the suggestions! ~Jan

Admmad's linked info worked for me to find entries on my garden.org plant list. On my ipad, I go to my plant list and hit the "share" icon (looks like a box with an arrow pointing upward coming out of it). Scroll down to "find on page" and type in what you are looking for.

Another quickie way is to type in the Daylily to the "search garden.org" box at the top, go to the Daylily then scroll down to where it says " in your list"and click on that. It will take you right to your entry.

Here's a NGA database question. I know that everything I post in the database is public info. However, when someone looks up a plant, at that bottom of each entry, there's a category labeled "Plant Events from our members." Frequently all the "events" are mine. Sometimes I see some from other people, but most often, it seems, only mine are visible. The plant list is a really handy way to keeps records of my plants, but I kind of wish that my notes about fan count, crown rot, or fertilizer were confined to my plant list and did not automatically show up at the bottom of each plant's public entry. Is there any way to block that so people can't see it unless they access my actual plant list?

Put your private information in the "comments" section of your cultivar entry instead of "events"
