I purchased my first amaryllis bulb this year. I bought three, gave two to neighbors as Christmas gifts and kept an apple blossom variety for myself. It bloomed once with six blossoms, I assumed that was all I would get and I would cut it back and put it away till next indoor winter season.
There were a few leaves coming up, and as I cut, the main stem, noticed that there was a new blossom head amongst the leaves.
My question is, is this usual, as I have no experience with Amaryllis. From what little information I had gathered, it was only to bloom once, so is it normal to have a winter blooming indoor amaryllis bloom twice?
I am asking the question because it's difficult to go through every forum comment.
Oh, I was going to put it away in a closet on the floor, and I'm just wondering is there a better place for it to hibernate?
Thanks to anyone taking the time to read this and especially thanks if you take the time to post an answer to these two questions…

Welcome!
Congrats on a bulb with another stalk. Not so unusual, a sign of a well grown bulb. Enjoy! If you want it to live and try to bloom again, Give it light and care like a 'real' plant all summer.
Do NOT put it in the dark until maybe September.
Plant it and they will come.

I gifted an amaryllis to a friend - it's now on bloom stalk #3.

Yes, it's now a houseplant until next year. With proper care (light, water, fertilizer) it will bloom again next late spring (the natural bloom time)..

After last frost, I'd put the bulb outside to get better light.
Actually, I plant them in the garden...
If you want to keep it producing winter bloom, you would pull bulb out of garden in like September (or whenever) and put in the dark to cause the bulb to go into dormancy mode...

Of course, around here, it's easier to just leave out in the garden, and let them bloom in the Spring...

I put mine out in the summer too but leave them in the pots, on shelves by my house. I tried planting some in my garden and the slugs ate them right to the ground and then finished off the bulbs.

Thank you all for all the great advice!
This bloom head is exactly twice as tall as the first one, and it's starting to split open for the blooms… 😁

Nice looking amaryllis!
