Daylily (Hemerocallis 'Coffee Frenzy')

I received this plant as a gift from the hybridizer in the Spring of 2021. To be perfectly fair, it is in a terrible spot in my yard, under a bunch of oak shade. However other plants are also in this area and manage to do alright. Not so much with Coffee Frenzy.

This plant almost never doubles, which I would consider a giant fault in a plant registered as double. I got five blooms the first year, three the second year and 15 last summer. Looking at my photos, almost all the doubling happened the first summer and none since. It's not a very interesting flower as a single. Sometimes it gets one extra slightly frilly petal but I don't think that counts.

I was excited to receive 2 fans of Coffee Frenzy as a bonus with an order in 9/2022. They bloomed the first spring 5/2023, which is a good thing, but none of the blooms in the first season were doubles. They are planted in a sunny garden where other double daylilies thrive. Hopefully the second season gives doubles, because the single flowers are boring in size and color.
