Exactly what I was thinking since most of them look like columns. I did take pictures of the foliage but unfortunately I deleted them so I have to go back and get them again. I tip my hat to you.

It looks like it may have been decapitated. There's a brown area top middle that could be a cut off/broken trunk. Certainly doesn't look like a typical Italian cypress!

We have some real old ones as street trees that actually have weeping branches and foliage. But the growth of the outermost upper branches screams Juniper to me. Probably chinensis 'Pfitzeriana'.

Ha! When you said Italian cypress and I glanced at the thumbnail, I figured the photo must be turned 90Β°.
