I have been fighting this for a few years: bunnies trying to create a den for babies in my large containers. I wake up in the morning to find soil scattered everywhere and sometimes the den extends under the roots of a new planted plant. Fortunately only twice did we not catch it in time and there were babies. We left them alone but couldn't water the plants enough so they suffered. We let them dig in the yard and always find a few dens though the spring/ summer. Anyone have a solution? I've thought about anchoring plastic screen but it is hard to fit around the plants and I don't like how it looks. Has anyone tried plastic screens made for containers to keep kitties/ babies from digging indoor containers?

Can you put some type of wired fencing? Around the edges of the pot. Might not look too bad if you get a green color.

I always use peppermint oil to keep squirrels out of my planters, there's always 1 or 2 planters each year that they take a liking to and dig in. Rabbits are supposed to dislike the peppermint smell too, although I've never had to use it to keep them away to swear to it. Sometimes I put a few drops on a cotton pad folded in half and held above the soil either with old bobby pins or plastic forks. If it's just flowers, you can put a few drops right on the soil, not sure if that's wise if you're growing vegetables though. Or something to clip the cotton pads around the edge of the planter.

But I do know it works to keeps wasps away from nesting in inconvenient places, squirrels, chipmunks, mice from nesting under the hood of cars, so I'm guessing it'll work to keep rabbits out too. It's certainly easy and cheap enough to give a try, just remember to redo it after rains.

I had an issue with chipmunks digging in containers. I placed the larger river/egg rocks around the top of the soil and it helped to discourage them.
