Attaching pictures of a weed that we cannot seem to eradicate from my daughter's flower bed. She has several beds in her backyard and only this one has this weed. It seems to be tunneling underground from the neighbor to the north's yard. It is spreading in this one bed via its root system and popping up everywhere. Can anyone help us identify it and how to get rid of it?

While I cannot identify it Brenda, I would recommend that before this weed gets up to full steam that a deep solid barrier be placed along the neighbour's fence line (deeper than this weed goes) to prevent further encroachment. That way, when you kill what has already crossed the border it won't have a reserve 'army' to restock your garden Sad

did you ask the neighbor what it is? maybe they know. The photos are too small for me to see clearly.

Can you get some pictures of the plant actively growing?
I can't tell from wilted leaves.

Looking at the roots, I want to say horse nettle or related...

Maybe Silverleaf Nightshade?

Thanks everyone for your responses. Unfortunately I have not used this in the past and didn't know I needed to come back and check for responses. The neighbor doesn't know what it is. They are fairly new to the house and not into yard work. The plant is actually kind of fuzzy. She has been seeing it for a little over a year now and we have not seen it bloom. Of course, we are trying to dig it up as soon as we see any of it. I think I will take the pictures and even a small piece of it to the office of our local Master Gardeners. Maybe they will be able to help.

Some of the silver nightshade pictures look like what we are seeing but others don't. We have not seen or felt any spines on it. Taking pictures and an example to the Master Gardener's to see if we can get a definite identification.
