Garden Sages
I have 3 plants in a pot on my deck. I have lots of leaves but no flower stems and no sign of any. I live in the Pacific Northwest; just west of Seattle. The pot overwintered on the deck beneath my garden window. The pot receives about 7 hours of full sun. Do you have any idea why I do not have any bloom stems?

Did you grow these plants from seed? If so, they take 'forever; to make a flower. (and that's everything I know about Crocosmia.)

I'll add that a potted plant is going to have higher nutritional needs than a plant in the ground. Have you been fertilizing it? You should be giving it a good fertilizer formulated for flowering plants. I like to use the slow release types like Osmocote or Multicote.

I have Lucifer. When I separate the bulbs the smaller ones take a longer time to bloom, but it's worth it to watch the hummers go to each and every flower Lovey dubby

I have Lucifer as well. The first year in a pot, it didn't bloom. The second year I planted it in the garden; it didn't bloom. But the third year was charmed and it bloomed on many spikes. Last year we had a drought, it didn't bloom. This year it's been great weather-wise and it's now getting ready to bloom. Love that plant, but it is a temperamental one. I think yours might need a little more time to acclimate itself and as Dave says, maybe a kick start with a fertilizer.

Glad to have you join us at ATP.

I have Lucifer also - grows like a weed for me (temperature PNW, about an hour north of Seattle) and blooms reliably. It can actually be a bit overbearing, and I've often lusted after one of the shorter cultivars. I'm not familiar with Woodside Select, but let it settle in, fertilize as needed (as Dave notes, more so in a container), and wait for it to take off. I have 4 clumps of Lucifer in full sun, and 2 in afternoon sun only. The afternoon clumps tend to send out more horizontal stalks (they all do to some degree), which I cut back to the ground, only allowing the vertical stalks to remain. Otherwise, it will fall into other plants, taking them out, or onto your ground or walkways, making a mess.

My son took some corms from mine and planted them in eastern sun up further north (Bellingham) and his have struggled. They have not clumped out, are noticeably shorter than mine, and only bloom sporadically. So, I assume full sun is a must, which it sounds like you have. This photo is from this morning:

Welcome! MKO
Mine get sun most of the day and bloom nicely. I live in similar conditions as yours, and mine are just now starting to bloom.
When I grew them in a container it did take them several years to come to bloom.
I would love to see a photo of your container.

Years ago my mother used to say to me, she'd say, "In this world, Elwood, you must be" - she always called me Elwood - "In this world, Elwood, you must be oh so smart or oh so pleasant." Well, for years I was smart. I recommend pleasant. You may quote me.

Garden Sages
Thank you all for your warm welcome.
I would have to classify myself as a reluctant gardener. I do have 5 containers on the back deck to keep them away from the deer and rabbits. I much prefer house plants. I have a Christmas cactus my MIL gave me and it has been with me for 29 years. I also have 2 other Christmas Cactus. I also have a Streptocarpella Saxorum that was given to my father the day he entered the nursing home 5 years ago. Dad has been gone for 2+ years but that beautiful plant keep on blooming its little heart out. Thumb of 2013-07-11/MKO/aa6993

Those are indeed nice containers (and I see you like those little solar lights, too. I have way too many of them, but I just love 'em!). And as far as I'm concerned, anyone who puts forth effort to keep plants going is a gardener, no matter how small the garden and no matter if it's indoors or out. Smiling

A "bump" I suppose. I have some crocosmia of an unidentified variety (the label being long lost into the soil). I like them because they refuse to die. On the other hand, they never seem to do much flowering either.

I leave them because they grow back every year and I have more important things to do than annoy them. They neither spread not die.

I notice them when they bloom briefly and admire them for that. Otherwise, they don't get in my way, nor I in theirs.

They accept what little watering I give them in Summer and do not demand more. I suppose they would do better with more attention, but not demanding it, there always seems to be others needing more, so the others get it instead of them.

I would be sad if they did not return some Spring, but not terribly surprised. But they will always come up, I guess, There are some plants that just ... linger... on their own. Happy where they are. Not asking for any special attention...

We could all learn a lesson from them.
