I thought that most mlldew was not that harmful and could be wiped off or washed off with mild soap.

My phlox looked pretty nasty last year and the mildew on it was pretty bad. This year my phlox is gorgeous. I will keep the milk trick in mind if I get mildew again. Thanks for the tip

Hi Harko, The two plants in my garden most prone to powdery mildew are Pulmonaria and Phlox. In both cases if the powdery mildew is left unchecked the plants suffer significantly. I wish I had some pics to show just how bad the Pulmonaria can look.

How well does milk spray work on existing powdery mildew? My lilacs always seem to get powdery mildew.

My baby lilac 'Julia" has powdery mildew . Do I just use straight milk ? I drink O% or 1 % make a difference ?

Thanks for the tip. We have had perfect conditions with extra dampness and cool nights. I put the milk in my miracle grow fertilizer applicator and sprayed it on. Even though the milk diluted with the water, it may a huge difference. The sprayer worked great to get the underside of the leaves as well.

I wonder if evaporated milk in a sprayer would work.

you would think that milk is milk is milk. It would still have the mildew fighting enzymes or whatever it is...

In the past, I've tried it diluted without measurable results. This is timely help for here right now; nights are cooler than normal, and we've had just enough sprinkles every night to start problems.

How about on Roses? The leaves on my grandma's (r.i.p.) rosebush showing signs of powdery mildew.
Would the milk mixture work on them too? I've been using Seven dust.

I've been using it on my roses, and my polemonium as well. It's working just fine.

My mildewed heirloom squash plants are still going strong with the milk cure, too! No new mildew has formed. I use the spray at least once a week...twice if I have the time, and the extra milk.

This treatment was so effective that I still had summer squash forming on my spring grown plants right up until frost. Amazing!
