To be honest, I'm not.

The introductions of the 2014 roses are nothing really to write home to Mama about. This is what I've found for the new intro's

Weeks Roses

Astounding Glory http://www.jacksonandperkins.c...
Soft Whisper http://www.jacksonandperkins.c...
Jane Seymour http://www.jacksonandperkins.c...

Clouds of Glory http://www.jacksonandperkins.c...

Nothing that just grabs me and says BUY ME NOW!!! I'll be putting in a small order with Palatine, probably. But I won't be ordering from Edmunds. I also probably won't be ordering from Garden Valley Roses because I don't like their website & how it's built. That's ok.. I'm starting to run out of room anyways.

Forget the J&P roses. I won't even add them to our ATP database. They don't list a registration name, so they're highly likely to be older roses that have been given a new name to trick the unwary buyer. Clouds of Glory, for instance, is a dead ringer for Pristine, an older J&P rose.

The only new rose that's caught my eye isn't on your list. I found it on the Regan Nursery website. It isn't that new (before 2006, according to HMF), but it's new to me. Regan will be selling it as Raspberry Kiss, but HMF already has five other names for it.

I'm thinking of placing an order with Palatine, just because I always do, and also because they offer Lynette as a grafted rose. I have an own-root Lynette from Roses Unlimited, but it's never going to be as spectacular as it would be in the grafted form. I want to replace my favorite own-root roses with grafted roses whenever possible, especially now that grafted roses seem to be on the way out on this continent. I hope Palatine doesn't follow Pickering's example and switch to nothing but own-root plants, but it may do that someday.

I agree with Zuzu. I haven't trusted J & P for several years. Geesh .... they were trying to sell minifloras as HTs. I truy question the ethics of the people running J & P these days. Grumbling They may be introducing new roses, but if they really are new roses, they are the roses that were in the pipeline when Keith Zary left J & P .... some of which were never scheduled for introduction. I'll pass.

Smiles,

The Gagasgarden link you put up there is a good one, Toni. Thanks!
Edmunds sold several of the new Weeks roses this year, and had enough left over that they were going pretty cheap by June. I ordered and killed 2 Happy Go Luckies already.
I'll probably order the new Eyeconic rose, since those hold up so well in our extreme weather, and probably Jump for Joy and Coretta Scott King. I like the parentage on both of those.
I read something about the Jane Seymour rose in a magazine, but my memory is foggy about it right now--but it did mention it had other names.
"Hypnotized!" actually looks like one that J & P sent out a few years ago on the test panel. The rest of the J & P roses look like some I already have, or HAD. This year, I've taken out more than I can count because of RRD. Those spaces were then filled by lilacs and other shrubs, so I may also have to search for a place to plant new roses!

Thinking about getting these from Palatine:

Meteor - http://palatineroses.com/rose/... (how DO you pronounce noisette?)
Brother's Grimm Fairy Tale - http://palatineroses.com/rose/...
Garden Delight - http://palatineroses.com/rose/... (mine died.. maybe.. I need to go through the yard & see who survived & who hasn't!) .. you know, that looks an awful like my mystery Perfect Moment...
Gypsy Boy - http://palatineroses.com/rose/...
Lavaglut - http://palatineroses.com/rose/...
Red Intuition - http://palatineroses.com/rose/... (mine didn't make it Sad )

Of course, all depends on what they have available on Sept 1...

I like Meteor's ruffled look. (I think noisette is "nwah-ZET")

I agree that Garden Delight does look like your Perfect Moment - I quite like it too.

Some of them say they are sold out... (?)

Porkpal's right about the pronunciation of noisette.

Last year they were updating the website throughout August. I've only noticed the addition of one new rose so far, but the last week of August should be the time for most of the changes.

I'm aways surprised by the zone information for Meteor (USDA 4b to 9b). So many noisettes are hardy only to zone 7.

Pickering's fall list is up, and it looks like Pickering is shipping to the U.S. this year. According to the updated webpage, they are grafting onto multiflora for most roses, laxa for others. The only own-roots they mention are some of the OGRs.
http://pickeringnurseries.com/...
They list several roses that have spent years on my extended wish list. *Blush* My resolve is rapidly weakening. The last order I had with them came 6 weeks later than promised, so if I order now, I might get it this fall and not have to deal with unpredictable spring swings! They sent me decent roses; they just sent them (dormant) in the heat of summer so they all died.
Any other reason not to order from them?

I wonder about this list. Are they going to update it or are they really offering nothing new this year? The page of David Austin roses is particularly disappointing, showing nothing but the same roses they've been carrying for years.

Angry Angry
I just called Pickering. The toll free number is not yet operational. The other number went to an answering machine that said, "if you are calling from the U.S., we are not able to ship there this fall. We hope to ship in the spring."

Don't know if the answering machine message is as outdated as the website or if that is the current status.
I sent them an email asking about shipping and also for a list of new roses that aren't on the website yet.
The only newer Austins I'm seeing anywhere are from Austin themselves. A nursery friend said Austin got even pickier about who they would license to grow, and they charge nurseries so much more than other patented roses, and many places are just saying NO. Crying
The Austin catalog for 2014 has not arrived here yet, but someone on gardenweb said they already had theirs.
Seems to me, repeat customers should be the FIRST to get the new catalog. Sticking tongue out

Cindi - Check your mailman. I got a DA catalog weeks ago and I've never ordered from them.

Luckily, Regan Nursery still carries many of the newer Austins, and although it charges more for Austins than for its other roses ($22.99 as opposed to $19.99), it still charges less than David Austin does for the same rose. Lady of Shalott, for instance, costs $22.99 at Regan Nursery and $26.95 at David Austin.

Regan doesn't grow its own roses. It gets these from David Austin, so the only possible explanation is that Regan's retail markup is not as high as David Austin's. Odd, isn't it? You'd think the source could afford the lower markup. Blinking

Austins here range from $39.99 to $45.99, so $26.95 + shipping isn't bad.

Went through all the "mauve" & the "strong" scented roses with Pickering. Didn't find anyone that I just couldn't live without.

Glad to stick with Regans for now if I need any more roses, their fall 1/2 price sales make it worth the drive. (just over an hour drive) I picked up a second Brother's Grimm Fairy Tale last month. Thumbs up

Yes, Sue I would say that was worth an hour drive. Or two, or three.. *Blush*

Ok, here's the email I received from Pickering this morning:
Dear Cindi,

We are now going to be shipping to the U.S. this fall and anticipating they will leave here the 2nd or 3rd week of November. Hopefully, the current problems U.S. will not affect us being able to ship. All of our Roses are grafted onto multiflora and only those roses on our website now are available, there will not be any new roses added.

Regards,

Susan

Pickering Nurseries

My next task is to whittle the list down to 6 or 7 roses. They are shipping the same time as Palatine, which means I'll be planting quite a few roses at once. November here can be super pleasant or cold and miserable. I think, after I'm finished planting the 18 mums I bought this morning, I'll start digging a few holes for roses! My Maryott daylily order will arrive this week, and one last order from Santa Rosa, so I think I'll check my supply of Alleve before I do too much damage!

Hmm.. Regans has a couple I'm interested in. They ship good roses? I'm interested in Summer Sun, Smiley Face, Tam o'Shanter, and Valencia

They don't start shipping until the bareroorts come in of course and I got one bareroot one time from them, I usually buy them potted and on sale in the fall. But I think they have good reviews.
