Today I bought two clematises that my husband chose- Daniel Deronda and Blue Ravine ($7.99!) and I planted them together at the front of the house so they can eventually climb up a trellis against the house I like the combo of pink and blue together. I also planted three that I bought last weekend, Mrs. Cholmodeley, in the backyard with an obelisk, and in the front yard, at the base of my flowering crab I planted Gazelle and Purpurea Plena Elegans together. One more I bought last weekend, Cherokee, I've decided to keep as a patio plant and potted it up in a big heavy plastic pot, bit I still put 3" of mulch on top of it. I still have one left to plant, Rouge Cardinal. I'm stumped on where to put it; I doubt that'll last too much longer...

Man I love spring!

Lucky you! Here there is little variety and prices start at 14.99. Last year there were $5 ones at Lowes. Thank goodness for co ops and online stores. Do you find them at garden stores?

I can hear you excitement in your post. How fun for you! :)

Even though I've been to every place around here that sells clems, the urseries don't get into full swing until the week before Memorial Day. I only bought 2 clems so far, but I've been getting other plants. There are 3 clematis that I want, but I still haven't planted my clems from last year.

Daniel Deronda and Blue Ravine were from Canadian Tire, a big automotive / hardware / sporting goods / gardening centre type store. The rest were from nurseries and were not cheap-I bought them last weekend. I have noticed the nurseries are slow to get clemmies right now, but not the box stores like CT. One nursery I visited last weekend had one left! So I simply just had to buy some English daisies there instead...

Hooray for Canadian Tire! Now I am homesick....
