I would like to buy to root pieces of fernleaf, does anyone have some- not to pricey though please.

Thanks for the help. Someone's selling seeds on eBay but not sure if that will work.

I've never bought seeds or plants from any ebay seller. I prefer to trade with other gardeners or buy from established companies.

I saw those seeds for sale on ebay, and did a little research on starting them from seed. It's a long, drawn out process and you may not see blooms for 3 or 4 years. According to the source I found, it involves planting the seeds and keeping them warm for about 3 months, during which time you won't see any sprouts, they'll just be forming roots. Then you stuff them into a cool environment (not freezing) for another 3 months. THEN, you warm them up again and maybe, if you're lucky, you'll see sprouts. I don't think I have that much patience! And the plant that I, at least, really want, the Paeonia tenuifolia Rubra Flora Plena, doesn't set viable seed. So you really need a division. I found one source, but today is the last chance to order and it's about $58 with shipping. Ouch. And I've also read that you really need to do some advance soil prep before buying one. Sigh. Maybe next year.

You might go into the Plant Database and search for "fernleaf peony". I found 7 plants, with a total of 5 "Have" members and 8 "Want" members.

Someone who "Has" might send you leaf cuttings, others who "Want" might split the cost of a mail-order plant with you.

ideally, when you find someone who Has what you Want, you can look at what they Want and see if you have it, or might buy it and split with them.

Or, whatever you Have, look for someone who Wants it. Maybe there is some practical three-way trade. Or, if you ask both of them what else they might Want, and you have things to offer, someone may take the attempt for the deed, and send you something for postage.

That makes creating a Have List a good idea. If you know how to root cuttings, any plant you bought with a reliable name tag becomes a possible trade item.

You might try looking up more "fernleaf peonies" and add some varieties or data details to the plant database, then ask some questions on the Peony forum, modestly mentioning that you've been adding to the database and praising pictures that others have posted. Especially if you have something that you offer widely for postage, someone might offer you something for postage.

I got my start by buying larger packets of seed than I needed, and trading or giving away the excess. Then I found many people willing to give me things for postage.

I've noticed a tendency for ATP members to be such established gardeners that they already have most of the seeds they want - can't hardly give common seeds away here!

I never got into trading plants, because for me, "rooting" and "rotting" are synonyms. I'm about to have excess sedum and creeping vine I could offer, but they are "NO ID" plants!

If you stumble across a reasonable source, please let me know! My neighbor has one that she's been tantalizing me with for years. She bought it when she lived in Alaska and moved it here with her. She once offered me a division, but it has never materialized. Grrrr, I think she's toying with me. There is a thread on just this plant, too. I'll see if I can track it down.
