Found this root today at Walmart for $5! It's already resting in its pot for growing on.

Not so good, as I think the first little shoot that was showing when I bought and planted it has dried out. I'm hoping it was because I placed it in direct sunlight instead of shade for a few days. Anyhow, I'm keeping it watered and hoping for another shoot soon. I've also bought a Henryi for $5.98 from Walmart and so far, no growth showing, but I'm hopeful!

DH just recently hired a lawn company to spray our lawn and wouldn't you know the technician sprayed a Mrs. Cholmeley (sp.) which was still in the pot but growing and budding like crazy! I'm so mad I could spit. I've notified the company, because he also sprayed a weigela I had planted in a border and it's dying as well. We'll see if they make good on them, as they advertise. That Mrs. C was slated to go against a utility pole in our front yard. Dang, dang, dang!

yeah, dang to that setback!
Don't forget, you may be able to stimulate new growth from the roots by planting at least 2" deeper than original in the pot and angling the plant towards the support where it will grow, at a 45 degree angle.

Thanks, Sue. I snagged a pack of 5 Rouge Cardinals at Sam's Club last week and so far 4 of them are sprouting and doing well (in the shade this time). Don't know what in the world I'll do with 5, but I can always trade them, I guess. I'd love to pair one of them up with the Henryi against that utility pole and let them run!

Well, the Ville de Lyon is dust, I'm afraid. My own error in putting it in such bright light right off the bat, so just call me a clem killer and be done with it. Although ... my Rouge Cardinal, Henryii and Asao are doing very well. Yee haa!

Oh, what a shame. I'm glad the other ones made it. You'll have to acquire another Ville de Lyon someday. It's such a wonderful vine.
