We came from here - and I have to say that I really enjoyed everyone's posts and the interesting exchanges we had this month!
The thread "Our Orchid blooms in August 2013" in Orchids forum

Let me start the new month with one of my easy bloomers, the Lc Love Knot v. coerulea. This one always adds a new growth somewhere on its clump and blooms from that soon enough, not really waiting for a season. Nicely scented.

Potinara Hoku Gem falls into that same category, it blooms easily.
This is 'Sunspots' -

Prra Motes Leprechaun 'Haiku Mint' opens a spike, very nicely scented!

Vascostylis Midnight Treasure does ok, it is a small plant with ca 1 inch blooms. No scent

Domingoa haematochila loves the Summer outside and keeps on blooming

Dendrobium bigibbum v. compactum is a happy camper

Ceratostylis rubra adds more blooms
Thumb of 2013-09-01/Ursula/65a967

And Neostylis Fuchs Ocean Spray smells so nice, I like to hang it at the entrance of the cage, so I get a nice whiff when I walk into it.

Such lovelies, Ursula. Especially like the colors on the Vascostylis. I'm waiting to see how my various Vandas do for me through winter before I go looking for more.

A new bloom for the new month here! Blc. Mem. Hans Graf X Blc. Edisto finally popped this morning.

Beautiful! I love the Potinara (I love orange and spots) and Neostylis is a wonderful specimen.

I was googling some plants today and came across these photos from a man called Steve Beckendorf- beautiful photos and plants.

Arghh! my son (who doesn't know o rose from an orchid), just called me to ask if I'd gotten his e-mail pic of a plant he just picked up free , and he was sure I had some. It is an Epiphyllum, and in the photo, there were about 30 more orchids that are going to be trashed if no one takes them. I have no room for more 'chids, but this is killing me!

Yes, thanks Susan for the link. Those photos are great.

Elaine, great color on your Blc. Mem. Hans Graf X Blc. Edisto. That is a keeper.

Wonderful show, Ursula. I especially love the Prra Motes Leprechaun 'Haiku Mint' and the Domingoa haematochila. So many orchids, so little space.

Wish I had room for some! This something he got from Craigs List. He Is flipping free stuff. Apparently lady had some medical problems and had to move in with the kids. They are giving away her whole household to anyone who will haul it off. There ARE better ways to handle it!
Ted, it's in Norwalk. I can get you a phone # if you give me yours. I guess they are in a hurry. My son is going back in the morning to pick up something they are holding for him.

Whoa, hurry over there Ted! Free orchids, ya gotta be kidding! Too bad you haven't room, Carol. There could be some wonderful big old specimen plants if she's been growing them for years. You could sell them to your friends . . . ?

On clearing out a house, been there, done that. Believe me, once the valuable stuff and anything of sentimental value is dispersed amongst the family, it's a real grind. My mother was still in the house I grew up in, and had 50 years of accumulated 'stuff' squirrelled away. Her own, and my Dad's too. I gave away a ton of 'stuff' and still had to pay $900 to the GOT JUNK folks to do the final sweep. Luckily I had a deadline, as the house was sold, or I might still be there!

Well, I went with the kids this morning to see what was there, and I did get a large Sobralia ( I think). The guy across the street had gotten everything else worth having. All that was left were a bunch of fried Cymbidiums and a fried Den. kingianum. My son's girlfriend got the pink Epi. I've been wanting yesterday, but I showed them what kikis are, so if she doesn't divide it, I'll probably get a kiki anyway. I don't think anything had been watered in months and at 9 am all were in full sun. So sad!

Ha! only if I can find an appropriate spot for it, and get the kid to move it for me again. I'm real short on morning sun and filtered sun. Hilarious!

Just got in. Looks like I didn't miss much, Carol, though it sounded good

Very nice bloom, Elaine and I like the Ceratostylis rubra and the Hoku Gem, Ursula

Odontocidium Catatante, one of the BORG store buys that finally re-bloomed
Thumb of 2013-09-03/Ted5310/56059f

Interesting how, where it was situated, part got morning sun and part afternoon filtered. So I have flowers facing every direction

Really pretty, I like the color combo. Gives sort of an 'old gold' effect.

Thought the orchids would get a 'dry out' day yesterday, but it rained at dinner time again! Three weeks now it has rained every day!

I went out for a bed check last night with my flashlight and intercepted a snail on 'Big Jim' but not before he had devoured a whole flower and a bud! Grumbling
