Okay, how many of you want to go on a scavenger/name hunt?
This plant came with the name of heuffelii 'Hispedulum'. I can find no reference for it. It's definitely a heuffelii, and a lovely one at that.
I just did another search, and found two links for this plant. Both at ATP.
So at least if someone else is looking for information on the name, they will come here and see what is posted.
This looks similar to one that was just labelled "heuffelii #1" back in the "good old days". It was out of Sanford's collection that eventually was bought by Sandy MacPherson. It was not a very fast grower.
Name: Marilyn Greenwood Village, CO (Zone 5b) Garden today. Clean next week.
Yes it did. I had about 3 different plants of this plant which came through great.
And this one continues to survive but the others bloomed and died. So we will see if this one will last another year.
Thanks,
Helen named heuffelii #3 (not number 2 as I previously remembered) as 'Belcore'. It looks similar to that picture you sent and it stays that color and pattern year round. Could be your baby. When I'm in your yard next please point it out to me.
That plant should have been well-distributed and probably picked up some misnomers along the way.
Here is an update on heuffelii 'Hispedulum'.
I have watched this one for a couple of years now.
Belcore is a love, velvety heuffelii.
I don't believe my 'Hispedulum' is Belcore 3, as Belcore 3 has a very nice velvet texture according to all the photos I find. My 'Hispedulum' does not show that trait.
