We just came back from our place in Pennsy, where we handed the place over to our hunter-friends! They should have a really nice week weather-wise and Venison = YUM!! !
It is certainly time for a new thread here, so let me start the month of December with my Gongora ( Acropera) armeniaca! My favorite little birdies!

We had a good time in Pennsy. We had a dusting of snow on the ground, which the hunters usually like.

I just ran into my mystery orchid on ebay and the name is familiar. Blc. Hawaiian Stars 'Pink Lace.'

I like the name (and the orchid, too)! Any orchid with the word Hawaii in it is a way to get me to buy, LOL! I'm such a sucker!

I'm glad we have the name for it. It is really pretty!

I found my Amorphophallus trees laying flat on the ground today so I cut them off at the ground and they are out for the trash guys. I counted nine little trees this year.

It should look great next year with a bunch of new tubers! The stinky blooms are one thing, but the tree-like leaves always look attractive.

Around here the greenhouse smells really nice during the day, especially on a sunny day as the Cattleyas are coming into bloom one by one.

Bc Princess Teresa 'Princess Michiko' starts opening 3 spikes


Another Orchid with nicely scented blooms is Dendrobium moniliforme, I see lots of buds right now on this one as it starts blooming.


Not scented, but I always enjoy the numerous spikes on Asctm christensonianum

Hello, I have followed the post on this site for some time and enjoyed the time spent with you, may I join in on the fun? I do not know how to post pictures, I only use an IPad. That said I very much enjoy seeing the seasonal pictures, there are so many of my orchids that I frankly can not decide when they are seasonally expected to bloom for me. I have the orchid ailment since 1974, It's not letting up even now that I am growing on my apt patio. Inside now since Nov but in Memphis there is always a day or two they go back out for some real humidity, like today. Expected 70 degrees and high humidity! We do not have any retail therapy around here but I have gotten quite a few from Kawamoto off of eBay in the last three years and I think they are a great company. Would like to hear about places to do a short day trip or overnight maybe if anyone is willing to respond, anyway all of the contributors have made daydreaming so fun. Thanks Bert

Welcome, Bert! We would be happy to have you join our group of orchid lovers. There are various threads on this blog that we use to show off other plants as well. I think you will have to have a computer with a USB port and some storage in order to import pics from your camera but if you take the pics with your IPad you should be able to post.
At any rate, we look forward to your participation.

Hi Bert! Welcome to the fold! Feel free to tell us how much you like our pictures until you figure out how to get your own on here. We love compliments! And I never know when my orchids are going to bloom for me, either. Literally, it's always a surprise to me. Which is kind of fun in its own way. Everything else in the garden can be "old reliable"! I've never ordered from Kawamoto but I've been tempted to many times. They have a gorgeous selection. I've temporarily run out of room so until I kill some more orchids I'm not allowing myself to buy any.

Ursula, your 'White Lightening' looks almost identical to my Blc. Mahina Yahiro x Ruth Gee 'Diamond Jubilee' FCC/AOS. I just took this picture, and though this plant only had the single flower, it has now been in bloom almost six weeks. The 7", nicely fragrant flower looks as good today as it did when it first fully opened.

As Jim said, you should be able to post from your IPad. I have one of the first IPads as they came out, and I can transfer pictures from my Camera to the IPad via an adapter. (Not sure about the next generation IPads). But even easier - if you have a later model, take a picture with the built-in camera and you should be able to post your pictures straight from your Photo files.
In the meanwhile - we look forward to you mixing in here.

Ken, yours looks gorgeous! I don't know the genealogy of your hybrid parents, perhaps there is a Bob Betts or some relation of BB in the background. Let's see what they look like:

I wouldn't really call it varieties since both Orchids are "hybrids with some similarities in their background". If I were to think about varieties here, the identical parentage would come to mind. But yes, I would have trouble keeping them apart too.
