I think we all need to know about Brugs.
We have some very knowlegable people coming to the forums to see what they can learn and also to teach us that are fairly new to brugs a thing or two,or three. Smiling
So i want to open a new forum for Those things also.
So come on in and pull up a chair. Relax and talk about brugs, cuttings, seeds and anything else bruggy, that comes to mind.
Thank all.
Charleen

Ok first question. If I get started growing them, I bring them in for the winter right? So these can be grown in containers?

Yes, you can grow them in containers. But it will be a big container and you will have to keep it fertilized and watered. They take a LOT of water in the summer. But once you bring them in for the winter, you slack up on the water for the winter months. Have you got you a brug yet??

You can also winter your brugs in a dormant state. Place your containered brugs in any dark area of your home where temps will get cold but will not freeze (basements are ideal for this, some people use their garages). Water the pot very little (like once a month) just to keep the roots from completely drying out. This will force the plant to go dormant. It lose many or all leaves. The roots are what you want to keep alive. You may lose everything above the soil line even, but its those roots that count. When the weather begins to warm up (and all danger of frost is over) you can bring the container out of the dark and begin a regular watering routine. Fertilize with a weak solution until you begin to see significant rebound of the plants. This method can be used for plants that you have grown in containers all summer or those larger plants that are pruned and dug up at the end of the season.

This time of year on a brug thats been brought inside that's very common. You'll find pictures of brugs that have been brought inside for the winter that have no leaves but still have a flower or two on them. It's a reaction to the short daylight hours and the shock of being brought indoors. Even here in south florida where they thrive year round, if we get one of our cold snaps my yard look like fall in NY...i currently have over 100 brugs..

Hey all! I have my brugs in my GH and they have been blooming sporadically. I now have pods on some of them. On Insignis Pink there are 10 pods. The ones I have are Charles Grimaldi, Sun Ray Yellow, Insignis Pink, Ecuador Pink, Super Nova, and Temple Goddess. I guess they were open pollinated since they are all together in the GH?

I may have missed it somewhere. What kind of soil do you use when repotting a brug? And what do you feed it and how often. I am determined to get mine healthy and blooming this year. Rolling my eyes.

Are you going to keep it in a pot?
Have you ever tried it in the ground?
When I leave them in a pot, I used a good potting soil, but before I put the soil in I usually put some composted manure in the bottom of the pot. Then some soil, then the plant. I want want it to get burned before it gets a chance to grow., After it starts growing, I used a masnure tea to water it with and they take a lot of water once they get growing. I'm sure someone else does it differently but this is my basics.

Okay, I think I will put it in the ground. Dig a big hole, put composted manure in, mix with some soil, plant brug, water in? How often should I feed it if in the ground? I saw somewhere that you take cuttings in the Fall in case Winter kills the mamma brug.

That is your Back-up Insurance, cause you never know if it will freeze or not. I hade mine on the west side of the house, Believe me it will WILT if it needs water. I water mine about every day unless it rained after it grew larger. It got to be a big plant. You can put the manure around it to , you can get it now doesn't doesn't burn plants. But be sure and keep it watered. They may come back from root. but if you have cuttings you don't have to worry so bad.
