Hey Rick, how hard is that eucalyptus to grow. I have been looking at some seeds and was wondering. James

I no longer have the Eucalyptus either.
I didn't start it from seeds, I picked it up at a garden center in Tulsa.
It was in a 2-3 pot when got it & it grew over 5 ft. in one season.
I did dig it up & move it into a large container to overwinter.
I ended up cutting it back & it resprouted very well....
This fall I had to decide what kind of things I wanted to bring into the greenhouse.
I reconfigured my shelving & brought in an extra container for my water garden
plants, so I didn't have room for the large container I had the Eucalyptus in.
You might kee an eye out for it as I also saw this at one of our small mom & pop
nurseries here this past spring.

You know Rick, I live in a small town well it used to be small. Been here all my life as a child pop. around 3000 now day maybe 14 to 18000. But business wise has not grown. I am about 30 mile east of El Paso, Tx. And just about have to make a trip there to get anything. An for mom and pop places they just don't exist in El Paso any more. All is big box stores and to be honest most of the times they just bring in the same thing every year, nothing different. Maybe I will try out the seeds and see what I get.

I know what you mean about space with the 6x8 GH. Not enough space for all you want. I am giving so hard thought about putting another one up attached to this one. Have you seen some shown on the internet, I have seen a couple. but then again I am getting kind of old to be taking on to many new projects....

I know exactly where you are coming from James.
I now live in McAlester, OK, was actually born and raised an hour south of here
in a little town called Hugo. Did 2 yrs in Wilburton & 3 in Stillwater going to college.

I really prefer small town life, lived in the country the biggest majority of my life.
I live in town now, quite a difference, but figure one day I may be back in Hugo on
the homeplace. My mom & nephew still live there...over 30 acres.

The garden center situation here consists of 2 small seasonal mom & pop plant stands that
are open spring thu fall. Then it's Wal-Mart or Lowe's & as you mention with those 2 it is
the same tired plants year after year. We also have 1 greenhouse here that does get in some rather
unusual things from time to time, just have to be there to catch the good stuff.

So similarly I look forward to going to OKC or Tulsa just to hit the bigger garden centers.
I have favorites in both cities, however, my wife & I go to Tulsa most often. It is only about an hour & half
drive & we go to Sam's & she has Dr's apt there too, so I do get to visit there often.
I have also attended the Tulsa Garden Centers Cactus & Succulent show & sale the past few
years & have befriended a couple of growers/vendors there. Had a chance to visit one of theirs private greenhouse
open by appt. It was awesome. Imagine a giant greenhouse built on top of an old tennis court. WOW
It was chock full & plants were lined up all the way around the greenhouse too. I don't know how they get it all in
there in the winter, haha.

I also try to plan ahead if I get to get out of town or State to visit greenhouses or garden centers while on vacation.
Did this a couple of years ago when we went to San Antonio, my dear wife is very tolerant of my plant craziness.
I also have a good friend who has an awesome nursery in Stillwater. It is called Bustani Plant Farm.
Steve travels the world looking for things that grow well in Oklahoma heat & such. Sadlly he no longer does
mailorder, but I go for a visit every spring. You can check out his website. Awesome stuff...if you see anything you
like let me know, I may have it.

I too have thought about trying to add another greenhouse onto this one. I have seen it done on a forum online.
I do wonder how they joined them together on the ends?? I figure if I try it, I will come p with something.
I am pretty good a rigging things.

Well I am getting around slow this AM, got up around 7:30 to let the dogs out & it was sleeting, it has started snowing now
& everything is covered. Very pretty, don't mind the snow so long as the ice stays away. Hope you have a good day my friend.

Rick, thanks for your tree mail, so enjoyed reading it. For sure will check out your friends " Bustani Plant Farm". Sound like a great place to spent an afternoon or a whole day at.

I don't think I could ever live in a big city, been a country guy all my life. My maternal grandparents were farmers, raised cotton on a 200+ acres farm. I have hoed many a row of cotton and picked many bags full. Now I am realizing my age. Back in those day weren't many cotton picking machines. We had a few cattle, pigs and chickens, don't ever recall going to the store to buy meat or eggs. And all the vegetables were home grown and canned. Some time I think about how good every thing tasted.

Hope your weather improves and it get warm and stays that way. I did put out some bok choy today that I had started indoors, and planted up some Day lilys seeds I had started with Deno method along with some Hardy Hibiscus. Need to plant some Poppy seeds with in the next couple of days.

Well James, obviously you were raised right :biggrin
Never grew or picked Cotton, though my mom did some of that.
My dad was old school as they say, had us up before daylight most of the time, busy with farm chores.
In the spring we planted a large garden with a horse or mule drawn plow.
As you can imagine, I have walked many a mile in that old field behind our house.
I used to dread it as a kid, how I miss it now.....
