If you have weeds, why not put them to work for you? Stir up a batch of FPE - Fermented Plant Extract - and your weeds magically become fertilizer and pesticide - and it's organic!

Thread OP

I'm a farmer in Thailand. I have 700 oil palm trees. The costs of giving bought vitamins and minerals, as the Thais do, eats into any profits big time. I have been using Em for two years now and am pleased with the results. I use EM in conjunction with pig or chicken poo poo.

I use a lot of EM and every month I make about 600 litres. I find that making/breeding the EM three times (1800 litres) from the first batch is enough. Then I start anew.

This week I'm starting to produce my own EM. I don't really think that it will be a great cost saving as the costs are low (1.5 Baht pet litre). At 50 Baht to the pound that's about 3pence a litre. And in US money about 5 cents per litre.

I have 10 x 60 litre plastic drums, but I only start but ultilising 3. When the 3 are ready they are used to make 6. And when the 6 are ready 10 are made.

The finished EM is then used quick. I transfer the EM into 10 litre plastic containers and they are delivered to the farm. The Drums are, now empty, are now used on the farm. Each is placed on a grid so it can service 15 palms. They are each filled with 50 litres of fresh water. To each drum is added one 10 liters of EM from one 10 litre container.

Each palm gets 5 litres.

Results are fantastic. Compared with other similar farms close by ours is by far the best.

Sorry folks; the figures in my first blog were inaccurate. 1800 litres should read 3500 litres (after diluting). And the 60 litres in each big drum does 12 (not 15) palms (5 litres a palm).
